Clifden Summer 2016

(1/17) > >>

Peter O'Sullivan:
I will be in Clifden a few times over the summer, planning to either camp or stay in the hostel depending on the tides and weather. For those who haven't been. Clifden hole is excellent. Here is a description http://wiki.iww.ie/index.php/Clifden_Hole Turn up two hours before a 4.5m high or higher tide. Paddle and repeat twice a day.

Get the tides from http://www.wtides.com/ Download and install. This will give you daylight hours as well. Aim to be in Clifden on days where you can paddle twice a day to get maximum benefit from the tides. Program should look like this https://picasaweb.google.com/108250712605161593102/UCDCCMessageBoardPosts#6002514391107848146

Best place to camp is either the proper campsite, for 10euro a night

or free camping near Ballyconelly

If you're going for free camping. Get drinking water here https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.430278,-10.075321,3a,75y,329.54h,58.46t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s4WI4_yar3CnLm1WcW-EftQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

The hostel in town is alright if the weather is miserable.

Clifden hole is suitable for all standards of paddlers. Swims are harmless.

Bring insect repellent!

Niall Finch:
Will be up for few paddling adventures over the Summer. Not sure how it compares to Clifden or what the conditions are like, but Oranmore is a lot closer and easier to get to, might be worth considering.
