Biosecurity and the club

(1/1)

kmck:
Many of you may have read my post about crayfish plague on the TDU facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/trainingunit/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE&fref=nf

When we travel from one river another we run the risk of spreading disease and invasive species.

We should inspect to see if we have any passengers with us.
We should drain our boats
When possible wash and dry our gear and boats.

This has been a friendly announcement from me

kmck:
A suggestion from one of your oldies was to create a section on the website for biosecurity and include it in your submission to the college that you are promoting best practice guidelines for the club members

https://limerickkayakclub.wordpress.com/environment/ is an excellent example of what you can do

kmck:
http://www.biodiversityireland.ie/projects/invasive-species/crayfish-plague/ There is a voluntary ban on moving in and out of infected areas. The Barrow is one such area. The nore is currently free of disease.
