Dirtbag kayakers! <3It's the ball time of the year again! Due to the excellent success of last years two night event, this years event will also be two nights, the
22nd and 23rd of March. Those amazing two days look like this:
- Friday Afternoon: Arrive a the IMC hut in Wicklow, have a few drinks take a few pics
- Friday Evening: Head down to the Glendalough hotel for a fabulous three corse meal followed by much dancing
- Friday Night: Head back to the IMC hut to dance on some tables
- Saturday Morning/Early afternoon: The annual UCDCC BoaterX
- Saturday Evening: A lovely Ailbhe cooked dinner and some cans
- Sunday: A tearful trip home
A ticket for the ball is €50, one night stay in the IMC hut is €15 and if you are mad craic and want to stay for 2 nights and come to the best night of the year its a meagre €80.
For those of you who have never been to the most illustrious of the UCDCC Kayaking events, the ball is the actual best night of the year and not one to be missed. <3
The BoaterX For those who don't know is a race that takes place on Jacksons. This will take place the day after the Ball on the 23th of March. It will cost €5 per person to cover the prizes, payable on the day.
The
Team Race will involve 3 people per team:
- 1 Fresher (first year in the club)
- 1 College Type (2-4 years in the club)
- 1 Oldie(>4years)
- One of each gender should be on the team
The team will make their way down the course as a group, and the last person to cross the line will be the time for the team, so it is in the teams best interest to stay together. At least 2 people have to run Jacksons. The finish line will be the hole of Jacksons. Time deductions may be made as follows:
-10 seconds for plugging the hole of Jacksons (only given to one paddler per group)
-15 seconds for all 3 paddlers running Jacksons
-20 seconds for each paddler that catches the Energiser eddy
-30 seconds for all 3 paddlers in Fancy Dress of some sort! (note: this should not interfere with your ability to swim, etc.)
BoaterX: The BoaterX (boater-cross) will be a race between 4 or 5 people down the course, the top 2 progressing to the next round. This will be split into Men and Womens categories, and depending on numbers, be further split into Fresher, Non-L3, and L3 or more categories.
There is always a chance that we will not be able to run the BoaterX as it is levels dependant. If the much desired and mythicised rain does not arrive, there will be a back-up plan depending on who has signed up, etc, but may involve coaching and/or cliff jumping.
So being realistic the starting time of this race is entirely dependant to the state of all our heads on Saturday morning, but the general running order is as follows:
- Head down to Lyhnams car park. Everyone gets changed.
- If by some miracle the stars align and we have 3 or 4 plus competitors capable of racing the Glenmacnass, we will run a time trial race of the car park section. If we are all really hungover and being really slow, this won't go ahead. Hopefully while this is running everyone not involved will be moving to where the river crossing is.
- Safety briefing for all to attend
- Opportunity for people to run Jacksons if they wish.
- Start of Team Heats
- BoaterX heats will begin.
Prize giving will take place immediately afterwards in the car park. Consisting ONLY of the alcoholic variety!
Prizes will be given for:
1st & 2nd Team Run
1st/2nd Mens BoaterX
1st/2nd Womens BoaterX
Best Competitor (For the individual who was both most helpful on the day and also gave the paddling their all)
Best Line (may or may not be sarcstic, depending on how it goes)
Best Swim
....possibly a few more sport prizes on the day
I will be looking for the selected few to help out with time keeping on the day, etc., so if you aren't paddling, come along and lend your assistance! you may be rewarded in honor and recognition for the rest of your days!!
Sign your Teams up below!
MUCH love,
Your Ball Committee xox
