Rog,

No.

When you just paddle down a drop your boat moves downwards on top of the water's flow and you enter the stopper.  When you boof your boat leaves the water at the lip of the drop and moves downwards with gravity but it also moves outwards thanks to your boof stroke, with the path of the boat being the third side of the triangle.  This is why in the boof photo Tom's boat is not in any water at all but is in mid-air.

The two consequences of a successful boof are that:

(1) On landing you continue forward and away from the stopper, and

(2) Your boat changes colour.

Unfortunately the main consequence of an unsuccessful boof is that the gear worn by your rescuer tends to show more prominently in the resulting photo because that person's gear is above water.

now clearly I'm no expert, but my understanding is that if you boof hard enough, time actually starts going backwards, the drop unerodes a couple of thousand years and the stopper moves downstream a few feet to the landing spot you picked out.

that's why I stopped paddling in the first place. it used to be about the laws of physics, dagnammit.

Has anyone else noticed that aside from bashing Tom (always a worthwhile cause and investment of time) that is an awesome shot! Who did you pay to paddle for you Tom?

It was a really good boof, and he came third in the individual race.  The swim happened in the team race - which is why Wongy is in the photo too.

Next time you see Tom hassle him to let you see the video clip of the boof photo which someone sent to him on his phone.  You'll see why he was able to beat some of the top paddlers in the country - and, it seems, Austria.

you are right simon, especially seen as how the photo dosent include toms minging face.

cormac, i know you and tom have started moving on in your relationship, sharing a house together and so on but face it your golden boy tom came in 5th place. if you are in a race and there are 4 people who finnish faster than you you are in 5th place, not third.

tom, you suck.
