Alright Folks,
For 2009 the Freestyle committee have decided to try something a bit different with the events.
Firstly National Championships
As with previous years the National Championships will take place over two events and follow ICF rules.
Event one at Curragower 28th/29th March 09
Event two at Clifden 3rd/4th Oct 09
Points will be awarded at each event ( as below)and the winner will be the person with the highest score.
The prize is a nice bit of glassware for mantle peace and of course the fact of being crowned national champion.
Irish freestyle League
This is new for 2009. We are going to have 5 events ( 2 or which double up as National Championship Events) which will be held at various locations around the country.
Event 1: Curragower 28/29 March 09
Event 2: Clifden 20/21 June 09
Event 3: Cork TBC July 09
Event 4: Sluice 12th/13th Sept 09
Event 5: Clifden 2nd/3rd Oct 09
The league will be scored much like the World Cup scoring system ie
Paddlers points will be calculated on their four best results results, this will allow for having a "bad day" or if some one simply can't make one event out of the series.
The league will have two divisions Expert and Sport. As for who is in expert/sport? Anyone who has been part of a national freestyle team or squad will not allowed enter sport. Also if some one is obviously good enough to be in the expert class it will be at the discretion of the committee to "bump them up" .
The league events will not have to follow ICF rules and will be run as the organiser sees best. I imagine we will see the return of the heat system utilised at the sluice rodeo last year.
The prizes for each league event will be vouchers for Irish Shops. The over all winners of the league are in line for some pretty good kick ass prizes, think along the lines of Kokatat / H2O... more details to follow very soon.
There will be more details of each event in the coming weeks.
Lets all try make this a success.
