Title: Sea kayaking to small islands further away
Post by: Peter O'Sullivan on June 24, 2018, 11:50:05
So the idea was to kayak out to some small island and possibly camp on one and paddle back the next day. I think we should start small and build up as none of us have any proper training. Anyone feel like doing a navigation course? Given my navigation skills on dry land someone should probably do some training before I get us all lost at sea.

So my suggestions area

Blake might help us with a nav course since he is doing his level 3 sea kayak instructor as is Dave O'Reily I believe.

Blake would be amiable to run one of these courses. Need a few people to run one, useful set of skills for any of us to have.

Yeah I don't think I'd be too pushed on doing the course either

I was thinking about this and I'll probably skip doing a course. Going to stick with the book and aim for short-ish trips. Hopefully it will pour rain in September and August for river paddling but if it doesn't I'll be paddling to some islands.

I'd be interested in a trip but not a course just yet. Lambay island is actually privately owned and you cannot camp there. My mates roisin and Dave paddled out there a few weeks ago and paddled around it. Very do-able
