Turn up as early as possible, get the boat set up with air bags, the best gear and get it on the trailer. It takes about an hour to get to the river, with nights coming in early we have to get on early and off early so we have light.
-
Yahoo!!!!! I've been waiting for this trip for ages!!!!

I thought we were only doing the liffey this year :(

General Wicklow timetable.
Get to the boathouse for 9:30 because the committee bitched at you so they could leave by 10:15.
Leave the boathouse at 11.
Get to the put-in at 11:50 allowing for two trailor re-ties.
Get the car drop done and be ready to leave by 12:30.
Wait until 1 for the rescue to clear up the mess they'll have made on Jacksons.
Have an awesome trip on the river for the first half.
Realise by the second half that you're freezing and it's getting dark.
Get to Clara Vale at 4:30 unable to see much. Get dressed asap and do a head-count.
Spend the next 2 hours recovering most of the people you seem to have lost on the river.
Have the trailor ready to go by 7. Spend 15mins pushing the bus up the hill at Clara.
Bus breaks down in Roundwood at 7:20. Everyone goes to the pub.
Half the people get back onto the bus when it's fixed 20 mins later. The boathouse is reached at 8:15.
By 9, the survivors are drinking in someone's house conveniently located near UCD.
At 10 some gardaà show up. Half of them are looking for missing persons who's parents are very worried. Half of them are responding to calls that an unknown drunken crowd showed up at this house and proceeded to tear it apart.
Some gardaà leave because they can't make sense of your drunken gibberish, others end up staying the night...
You should make it home by Sunday afternoon.

Timetable for car turn up at river 10 do car drop. Get on 10:30 get off at claravale about 12:30 decide to go to rathdrum add eight hours to sort car drop and subsequent stupidity of doing the next section.

*checks life insurance and packs extra thermals*
Proper plankin' it now..... :(

I think the last time we tried to have a private trip before the club trip, we ended up in Parnell House at about 6:30pm nowhere near the end and our dry clothes. So your times may be a little off Kill, but it was a great opportunity for Cormie to pull out the aul' kishu and get snuggly with the freshers ;D
-
Oh ya - Any idea what time we'll be back ish?!s
More than likely 6/7 possible later
-

Who let him survive? I mean I thought it was time to separate the wheat from the chaff and all that...
-
....methinks the only reason I survived was cos' there was feck all water...... 8)
.....next week we separate wheat from chaff...but for today I'm wheaty..... ;)
-
...just 'cause you drink erdinger...bloody students and their free time, grumble grumble grumble... envy, sigh.
-
..GLUG...GLUG...GLUG..BUUURRRRPPPPP..... ;D
-
Ahh, but which actually floats better, wheat or chaff? I suspect chaff...
-
so what you are saying niall is that we kept that which we should have thrown away and threw away what we should have kept.
-
no, I believe it means that our criteria for distinguishing wheat and chaff cannot be based on flotation or, by extension, paddling ability.
the upshot is that the social members of the club are the true wheat, while the paddlers are chaff.
-
so what you are saying niall is that we kept that which we should have thrown away and threw away what we should have kept.
I like it, it explains why I'm still here...
Diarmuid is probably a little closer to what I may have been thinking at the time. That was something along the lines of the chaff of society making the best paddlers/ drinkers/club members. Purely because the greater neccessity for survival instinct to be ingrained (yes, pun entirely intentional) in the chaff means that they float, but probably don't go much further.
On the other hand, that's obviously bullshit.
What I was really thinking at the time is that Wheat is probably more dense than chaff. So, whilst being more generally useful, in this specific context the wheat is useless. Nothing to do with paddling whatsoever.
