Hokay there guys and girls,
so long as this annamoe gauge stays above the green line (http://www.irishwhitewater.com/gauge/rivers/annamoe/annamoe.png)
we are all good to go to wicklow this weekend.
we will be runnding down from annamoe bridge to trooperstown with the club and then the rescue will be heading on down through trooperstown and getting out at buckeys bridge.
sign up here if you are coming .
this will be a savage river trip.
lets just hope it rains.

How has the guage stayed so flat? If there's no rain wouldn't drop and if there is wouldn't it fluctuate?

it will drop when it is ready to drop or it will rise when it is ready to rise. the gauge will do its own thing. it will all be groovey.

The answer, Nuala, is that there is a lake just upstream of the guaged section of the Annamoe, which acts as a natural flow regulator causing the river to rise and fall far more slowly than other non-lake-fed rivers.

Wicklow again savage, bring on more white-water. I hope that gauge is nice to us.

Looks like im not going to make it paddling on sat so if anyone needs to borrow some kit give me a call. I will need it back that evening though but sure that can easily be arranged.

Would hate to see folks have to get off at Trooperstown when they are well able for the rest of it... except that time Cian made Eoghan Powell walk Jacksons cause he was in a club boat... that was hillarious :D

Has anyone been out there recently? Because the gauge does not look like it's working: it's reading "from 22/11/08 to 22/11/08" whereas the other gauges are showing from the 23rd to the 26th. Also it is completely flat.

The gauge is slightly unwell, very low battery.

you get to do guinnesses instead. it is way better. it will be your first real bit of grade 3 water.

FINCHY DON'T DO IT!!! They'll make you dress up like a girl and then take it like one too!!! Mainy what I'm saying is you're ours now, we drink and have way more fun then any shitty snowsports club in a country with no decent snow.

No there's actually (edit: athletic) competions at some - but i'm competing at the start so then i get to drink all the drink i can before heading into town ;D ;D ;D

Ah ok... good to know..... i was planning on meeting you guys at the river as it means i get an extra 2 hours in bed. I can do my house to Roundwood in 30 mins over the Sally Gap! But if you can organise me a car full of passengers i'll go to the boathouse.

Fair play to everybody who came out on such a cold day. It was a nice stretch of water and I hope you all had some (really cold) fun. Next club event is this Thursday for the Christmas Party in Messr Maguires on the quays (where everybody should be tonight for the birthday celebrations of Rog and Chops). €5 in to the Christmas Party by the way.

Fair play guys! That was one of the coldest days paddling i've had in ages! Good to see most people were still smiling by the end of it, despite half of the rescue getting cold & heading off early :D

Hey guys - Just want to thank everyone yesterday that helped out with resucing me repeatedly and with donations of clothes, warm drinks and chocolate to get me through the cold spell - you're all legends !!!!!! 8) 8) 8)
And for all the instruction down the river - besides being Hypothermic by the end ::) (my own fault - already "permentately borrowed" a longer wetsuit and more thermals) I was really happy what I learned during the day ;D

Good Hustle Finch, lessons learnt the hard way are the ones learnt quickest, by the way - awesome care bear impression there, who knew you could look so like the blue bear....
Well done to everyone who came out, fantstic paddle even if it was in the negative air temp kinda territory. You all were flying it from what I saw, it was cool to see people shifting into gear as they approached the rapids - keep it up guys and gals, there's some great potential in the group that I saw. That run is one of the most scenic in Wicklow and you guys got to see it at one of it's finest moments.
Special shout out to Sian Power (?) second time on a river and straight to Wicklow paddling like a hero, out partying like a fiend that night and only leaving the house around one the next day - LEGEND...
