Title: Club Champs Training Weekends
Post by: Aoife S on February 13, 2014, 14:58:02
Hey!

So this is the timetable for the rest of the Club Champs Training weekends :

Slalom Training Weekend                                              1 & 2 Mar

Surf Training Weekend                                                  8 & 9 Mar

Freestyle & Boater Cross Training Weekend                 15 & 16 Mar

Marathon & Sprint Training Weekend                            29 & 30 Mar

RSR 1 & 2 Training Weekend                                         5 & 6 Apr
(This course is a really great oppurtunity for all paddlers to ger their 'river safety and rescue' certs!
The Saturday will count towards your RSR1 and then the Saturday and Sunday combined will be your
RSR2! This course is usually quite expensive and it is really useful within the club so we'd like to see
as many people as possible at it!)

Club Champs                                                                 12 & 13 Apr

WW racing is to be rescheduled at some point when the rivers are a bit less mad :)

They will all be held in Kilkenny, and exact locations will be given closer to the time.  The best place to get accommodation is in one of the hostels or B&Bs in the town :)
We don't plan on running any of these weekends as club trips, but we would really encourage ye to get together groups to head down to these training weekends! We've covered the cost of these courses so all you have to do is sort out accommodation and how to get down there.

If you would like to go to any of these training weekends, please let either me know before the Wednesday of the week of the training session so I can register you for it and give you the timetable of events!

Slalom was good. These weekends are well worth doing. lots of tips and expertise on offer for FREE. Cost of getting to and from Kilkenny is nothing

I'm thinking about the Freestyle weekend, anyone else? People can probably stay in mine, I'm about an hour from the city though...

Done a wee bit of research on Accommodation:
(This may/may not have been procrastination induced.)

All prices are per person, and based on the 5th April. (weekend rate)

Kilkenny Tourest Hostel.

http://www.kilkennyhostel.ie/

8 bed dorm €17
6 bed private €17.50
3 bed dorm €18
4 bed private €19
Double/twin €21
Triple €20

Macgabhainns Backpackers Hostel

Twin private ensuite: €17.50
Twin private shared bathroom €16.50
3 bed private shared bathroom €16.50
4 bed mixed dorm €17
6 bed mixed dorm €15.

Actually, these guys are booked out the 5th already...

The Metropole

http://www.themetropolekilkenny.com

Some of their dorms are already booked out on the 5th.

Private Five Bed Dorm for up to 5 people, includes linen, towels. € 21.00
Ensuite room for up to 8 people, includes linen, towels. € 19.00

Lanigan's Hostel

http://www.hostelkilkenny.ie/kilkenny-hostel-accommodation-rates.asp

Rooms from €16, No specifics as to what room types on website.

Cradog B&B

€25 if you book through hostel world
http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Cradog-B-and-B/Kilkenny/9964?dateFrom=2014-04-05&dateTo=2014-04-06

€30 if you book through them
http://www.cradog.com/cms/index.php/rooms-rates-kilkenny

This place seems a bit of a trek from Kilkenny.

Conclusion:
These are the cheapest I could find, but there may be more. All I know is that there's a lot of demand for the night of the 5th April in particular. It is time to get booking if anyones up for RSR; otherwise it'll prove costly. i.e. all the hostel spots will be gone.

Myself and Helena stayed in the tourist hostel...basic but it was grand! Had hot electric showers and is pretty close to town for the partying ;)

When booking ask about secure parking or somewhere to leave boats. We ha to park on the street but they were kind enough to let us leave the two boats in the staff car park, until we had to break them out the next morning :)

Also, if you're going to a weekend, be sure to let me or Aoife know by the Wednesday evening before the weekend as we have to send numbers and details to canoeing ireland...

Is there anyone else up for this?
Failing that does the club itself have any plans on running their own RSR course?

If there's interest (6 people who want to do it) I can look into having one run before the end of the semester :)

The RSR for the club Champs will be free, except for tranport costs which if you went to and from dublin each day would be around €60 so split that 4 ways and your getting 2 days rescue training for around €15. Just to note that this is probably going to be the most subscribed course for club champs. Entry to it closes on the 31st of march to make sure we have enough instructors
