Title: Fishing expedition
Post by: kmck on November 24, 2008, 19:17:06
Okay anyone interested in heading away in june towards the alps? Very tentative as I will need to get a job and so forth to get the money, but I missed the foreign paddling last year. Austria, french alps or even a trip to italy? I can drive, the issue would be for people without gear, what are the costs of renting and getting a guide any ideas?

Step one click on user name, step two check last posts by said person. Send a pm to said person telling them to stop changing their fucking name so we can know who the fuck is who on the board. Thank you come again.

Before anyone starts planning an Alps trip this year, I think some kind of agreement on borrowing club gear would be necessary, also KmcK what's all this with getting a guide? Shenanigans!!!

If it's private, you'll find people are always interested, if it's not all you lovely people who have yet to get paddling awesome rivers in sunshine with beer boat evenings and campfire cooking - GET SAVING YOUR PENNIES!!!

Either which way, anyone with any interest in getting to the Alps - paddle hard now and you will have the time of your life in France/Slovenia/Austria, whichever country you go to. Get out to the Sluice get your ass thrown around and bombproof your roll, get down to Wicklow and start bugging people on why they choose the lines and techniques they do for each rapid on any river, practice practice practice!

This is also me declaring an interest in any such trip, I'd love to be involved in something like the good auld days, Briancon is famous for Le Sandwiche Americaine!

sounds good, but how about something with less fishing, more kayaking and after the twelveth of June?

Why after the 12th? Are you planning your Trinity Marching Season a month ahead of the rest?

Yes, yes I am. Thank you Evan. Got your potatoes ready for me to steal?
Title: Re: Fishing expedition
Post by: Evan on November 26, 2008, 17:12:55
As I'm sure every God-fearing Catholic on this forum knows, potato harvests aren't until September. By the time your early marching season comes around this year's crop will be finished. Granted, new potatoes may be ready as early as June but by moving the marching season forward, you've just reduced the potential for potato stealing.

and they wouldnt give us any of their rice either...

i asked nicely but they said no! go dig up the rotten potatoes and eat them.

It would have to go to austria, although last year it was huge early june, but I think my plan would be to rent a car and have a crew where we could just go where the water is.

I imagine that caelainn would have given you all the rice you wanted if you hadn't pissed her off so much.

Austria sounds good.

I'd actually love to go on a fishing trip, if anyone's interested... I've never been fishing before.

and you can eat whatever I catch, since I don't eat fish.

and at the end we can all die, like that movie A River Runs Through It... or was it Legends of the Fall... whichever one was about fishing where they all died for no reason at the end...

a river runs though it.

why not come to the alps?

might do. if only I paddled :P

if it was after july 26 I'd be an over 25 year old with 8 years' driving experience. woohoo cheap car rental. and my car doesn't go to any of the rivers! and there's no fish allowed in it!

Title: Re: Fishing expedition

10 in a day is so many. mackerel are so hard to catch. and its so difficult to find where they are and no monkey can do it.

Haha, I saw this post ages ago and just thought I'm not even gonna botherlooking at this...i'm not gonna go fishing!...... Finally boredom got the better of me and to my suprise it seems to have very little to do with fishing!! ;D

I'd love to go on a paddling trip! If I, like manyothers it seems, get a job then I'd defo be up for it!! And I can drive too!! :)

Gear might be an issue too, but I'll hopeflly have most gear by then...

hay there,

if any of you are seriously thinking of heading abroad over the summer i would sreiously consider getting your asses doen to kerry to get some good boating in, meet some of the oldies and start begging them to take you. kerry should really help all of you up your standard of paddling, with a view to getting ready of the alps or where ever you go.

Eh.... hell yes!!!!!

Will have to see how i can manage to get that much time off work but its a possibility. I'm sure i can convince them that giving me unpaid leave is a great way to save money  :D Siobhan - lets talk more over Kerry.

hi guys,

when a trip outside ireland?
Title: Re: Fishing expedition
Post by: Sick Boy on February 01, 2009, 12:05:07
guys it looks like there are enough people interested in going so id say go.

organise a meeting (for the likely organisers of the trip) and get people (drivers especially) to commit to something, even if they only say that they will come along to the next meeting, it will give you a chance to convince them to come with you. then you need to get people who have experience over there to say they will go too.

you wont need freshers to turn up to the meeting and it dosent have to be too formal but have some sort of agreement betewwn you all.

IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME.
