Don't forget about having to get gear signed out and having appropriate ICU levels or whatever the rules are, I can't remember if you need club gear.

Yep, I'm pretty sure you can go, provided we have a good rescue/fresher ratio.

By the looks of it the water levels won't be that high though.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: rog on February 15, 2010, 16:53:26
Yeah... Looks  like liffey's stopped releasing 4 megs as well... :-(

Everything is low, and no rain due i don't think
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Matt on February 15, 2010, 17:01:37
There's still a decent bit of water on the Liffey - 3 megs ain't bad - would still be worth a trip to sluice
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Matt on February 15, 2010, 17:03:37
Also, I hear there the Boyne's at a medium-ish level...

I'd be up for the Boyne, I'll have the ol'car too.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: JODY on February 15, 2010, 17:23:11
There's a weeeeee bit of rain forcast for 2m. By Wed there may be a bit of water on the Annamoe, could be a good time to go with freshers, low level means Annamoe - Trooperstown would suit. Low Wicklow would be better than a medium/ low Boyne  :P

I'll be about for Wed, will probably be at Sluice on Friday anyway.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Matt on February 15, 2010, 17:40:05
Low Wicklow would be better than a medium/ low Boyne  :P

 :o I dunno about that...
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: rog on February 15, 2010, 17:41:47
ha yeah, just remembering back to that trip down the annamoe over the summer when it was pretty damn low, it was shit the whole way down and i got a beating at jacksons... Fun fun fun
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: JODY on February 15, 2010, 18:03:06
Ok... what i ment was:
The Boyne is a long drive for alot of flatwater, if people want to go playboating Sluice would be a better choice. But if freshers want to get out Sluice can be pretty boring if you are just sitting around watching hence Wicklow would be better... does that make more sense?
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Jer on February 15, 2010, 18:05:09
If people are heading to Sluice on Wednesday I wouldn't mind coming along, don't think I'd have the time for anything else though.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Ley-Ley on February 15, 2010, 18:08:24
You can learn a lot on the Boyne if you're bothered. Sure there's a load of flat sections but the few features make up for it, especially for an enthusiastic fresher.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Jer on February 15, 2010, 18:12:14
It's a nice river to paddle on a warm sunny day but if it's cold and particularly if it's windy it can be a bit of a pain in the ass.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Karen on February 15, 2010, 18:13:11
I'd prefer a low annamoe to a low boyne - what with the driving and the long flatwater sections on the boyne
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Matt on February 15, 2010, 18:22:51
the long flatwater sections on the boyne

Gives you loadsa time to practice your flatwater loops :P
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: DNKY on February 15, 2010, 18:56:57
i thought by megs you meant me....i was slightly confused!  ;D

Post by: Eoghan on February 15, 2010, 19:20:09
haha i restrained myself from the board for the whole day! *pats myself on back  :)

i'd love to do anyone wednesday or friday...  :)

3 meghans?? your crazy!   :D

yeah i think sluice or runnable wicklow! i've never done the boyne but its a long drive!flat sections you say?? ewww  8) i don't mind at all though...
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Ley-Ley on February 15, 2010, 19:53:23
Sluice would be terrible for someone without a solid roll. Boyne isn't too bad of a drive. Once we are quick enough out of the boathouse we'll be grand!!
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Maryanne on February 15, 2010, 20:58:09
Ach no! I have labs this Friday...the unmissable (marked on attendance) kind :(
If anythings happening on Wednesday give me a shout but Ive a feeling I might be a bit wrecked still!
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: JODY on February 15, 2010, 23:25:21
Sluice is ok for people without a solid roll... just expect to swim & then sit around waiting when rescue get fed up chasing you & want to play  :P
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???

well if freshers don't mind getting wet and COLD i'm happy to practise rescuing!

That's what I like to hear!!

I wouldn't mind sluicing it on Wednesday. I'd also be up for the boyne on Friday as long as I don't have to drive! No chance of a low annamoe - Ghey!

I don't find that funny Robyn, can you explain what's so funny? I find it very odd that you would just laugh like that for no reason. LOL.

I'm going on Friday, to the BOYNE!!! Hopefully.

Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Rachel on February 17, 2010, 00:48:15
God, not being on the board for a few days can be disasterous...

Can I please come in someone's car to wherever tomorrow (wed)? If you're all happy to rescue me?

And Friday as well, any time after 12/12.30, have labs in the morning.

Yay, paddling!!!
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Ley-Ley on February 17, 2010, 08:32:40
If we are going, 12 would be too late for the Boyne. We'd have to leave at 11 if we want to get back at any reasonable time.

It also looks like we don't have enough drivers, would you be able to drive Kyle? Or Karen?

You gotta ask people themselves, either pm or text. Initiative!!

If we can't get the extra driver some people can't go. Karen?
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: DNKY on February 17, 2010, 22:27:30
well who has a car that i can ask?
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Ley-Ley on February 17, 2010, 22:33:56
Me and Matt at the moment.

Kyle, would you drive to Sluice? It's a shame to not let people go just because of space, interest doesn't come round often. I want to get into some freestyle too after seeing the lads last Sat!
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: DNKY on February 17, 2010, 23:27:37
do you have space per chance ley?
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Ley-Ley on February 18, 2010, 08:36:48
Yeah, I think so!

So do people want to go to Sluice instead? Either one is grand by me but I'm thinking about the young'uns!! Sure if the more experienced peeps think it's grand then lets go!! It's a shame to waste interest. Maybe the Boyne will be on Saturday!!! Yeah!
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: rog on February 18, 2010, 08:57:12
Instead of just running sluice, you could always paddle down to lucan weir and get off there, bit more craic maybe for the people who aren't comfortable on sluice yet.
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Ley-Ley on February 18, 2010, 09:07:02
Yeah sure we could do a static of Lucan if people get bored up at Sluice. Run the boxes as much as we want!!
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???
Post by: Karen on February 18, 2010, 09:16:28
I'll drive, but like kyle, not to the boyne

Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???

i've run the dodder a few times, mostly on dog low water but you can get down... one weir is a portage cause it drops about 10-12 foot onto rock..ouch!. there's also a big drop towards the end near the bus depot, you can see it from the road, but a bit of care would be advised, other than that just be careful of fallen trees..
Title: Re: Wacky Wednesday/Freaky Friday paddling....???

oh right cool thanks for the heads up anyway dave! 10 ft drop onto rock you say...sounds tempting.......  :)

I'm sorry to bring your dreams crashing to reality guys, but there's been no rain in Wicklow and Sluice is back to only a meg...

Weren't we meant to be training on the Dodder on Friday anyway?
I know that nobody has actually "organised" that yet, but I would like the chance to mess about and get my fitness up...it may even be fun?

Meghan, you couldn't even swindle a tomatoe (just barely a fruit).

Dan Quayle Misspells 'Potato' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdqbi66oNuI#)
Tomato from a strictly botanical view is a fruit, wow my degree has now served a purpose!

Tomato not tomatoe and Dan Quayle corrected a kid who had written Potato by saying he forgot to add the "e". It's one of the many reasons his political career nose dived. Roger reminded me of the gaff.
