Post by: Steven Mul on January 08, 2014, 22:09:40
Hey guys!

We're hoping to run trials to decide who represents us at varsities in the whitewater and freestyle sections. Details of these will be decided at a later date but for now if you could post up your name and which event (both if you'd like) you're interested in competing in I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Whitewater:
Derv
Marie
Ross
Diarmuid
Aisling
Cormac
Niall

Freestyle:
Derv
Marie
Ross

Interested in both - whichever suits the teams and ranking system more.

Sure whitewater, I'm not much use at freestyle!

I'll do white water. When will the trials be? Because I have slalom team training every second weekend now until selection in March!

I'm conflicted, but I'll keep an eye out for the trials for both.

Trials for the whitewater are now being held as part of Wacko on the Jacko!

So if you're looking to compete in varsities whitewater you need to attend Wacko and get a timed run in!

Still trying to decide on freestyle trials but they will almost definitely be held on Sluice!

Whitewater trials were held today in Wicklow on pretty much the exact course that it will be run on for varsities.

Times were as follows:

Niall Finch: 8.01
Cormac Roche: 8.05
Steven Mulrooney: 8.13
Diarmuid Ryan: 8.20
Marie Harrington: 8.33
Derv McAuley: 8.59

So this means the provisional team will be Niall, Cormac, Steven and Marie.

Just to confirm, the course was the upriver side of Trooperstown bridge to the eddy at the to of the run in to Jackson's (the eddy where ahh BoaterX usually starts from).
Congrats to the team!

And to clarify, the whitewater team was selected based on those present and based on the fastest times on the day. The team had to contain both sexes so the fastest boy and girl were selected. Then the next placed competitors were selected by their times.

Each competitor had one run of the course with other competitors who had already completed or had yet to complete their run providing rescue.

Also a massive thank you to Zog who acted as timekeeper and to Bill who provided rescue.

No probs thanks for the run today! On a more official note I'd like to verify the times posted are all correct and well done to everybody involved!  :)
