Title: Getting out in the pointy boats (marathon)
Post by: Douchier on April 16, 2012, 00:40:50
Morning folks!

I'm still struggling to get over how well everyone did in varsities...so let's do more of that stuff.
Anyone interested in taking the HP boats out on Tuesday or Wednesday (or Thursday?) evening this week?
There's a race coming up in a couple of weeks and everything - it'll be a a good bit longer than varsities, but that's what training is for!

Anyone who drives and wants to go would be especially welcome. I'd really like to get out to the Liffey, but if we can't get transport then the Dodder will have to do.

Say...boat house at 17.30?

Who's interested?

Wednesday: 6-7 spaces
Karen (D)
Diarmuid (D)
Me
Ross
Niall finch

Thursday 6-7 spaces
Matt E (D)
Karen (D)
Me
Derv
Marie

I'd love to do wednesday. My lectures are scheduled until 6, but I don't know whether it will be on as the final of the competition is on tuesday night.

If anyone wants to watch my robot be vaguely useless against other amazing (and not so amazing) robots in the Clinton Auditorium fro  7 till 9 on tuesday night you are very welcome! Diarmuid and Ross have both promised their attendance already.

It'll be like Robot Wars, crossed with rugby, but without the weapons and oval shaped ball.   ???

I'd also be interested in Wednesday marathoning.

Karen will drive on Wednesday, aiming to leave as soon as everyone gets their asses in gear (being there for 17.30 would be great as the boats are a bit tricky to tie.

Is there anyone who wants to go out on Thursday instead?

There's a limit to the number that can go: At the moment there's only the Gola, Gola-sprint, Deceptor and wave-hopper in service. fitting all four of these on a roof is a bit of a challenge. If there's another person driving then we could bring some other boats too and swap around.

So no chance of me and Diarmuid taking the duo then?

Probably not, it could be tricky to get bill and cormac away from it.

So, can you make Thursday instead?

Wednesday will be happening too, Karen's going out with whomever prefers Wednesday (numbers allowing)

You are going paddling...you've got polo!
That's in the evening though, what did you have in mind?

Ah yes I did forget about polo, well depending on drivers and what not, maybe a static at sluice ? Just for a short while, so that we're not all wrecked for polo
All this depending of course if it's running.

Remember that you can't get anywhere near the boathouse on Friday, so if you are doing marathon training (or polo) you'll need to get gear or load the car on Thursday.

Good point!
Friday at 13:00 - all buildings and campus will be evacuated
Friday at 13:30 - all gates will be closed
-> so make sure to get all the gear you need well before then, there will be security teams all over campus under very strict instructions to keep everyone out.

Ok, so we're all ready to rock for tomorrow.

Don't worry about "bagsing" boats, we'll bring what HP boats the club has and will share them around. The aim is to develop fitness and technique, but also to get everyone comfortable paddling these boats (Which I guess partly technique).

Boathouse at 17.30, bring what gear you have. It's going to be exercise, so you won't need to dress that warmly( but still, be sensible).

If you own some straps, bring them.

If you're not available this week then hopefully we should be making this a bit of a regular thing over the Summer.

See you folks tomorrow!

Hey! So this week is absolutely awful for me since I have dissertation panel debates on thursday, which makes me stay in the library too long! BUT, I would love to be doing training later on, even next week, but still have assignments due, so will definitely be more willing after the 4th of May :)

Way to go guys! With all this interest it looks like the day will be really productive  :D

I won't be ably to make it after all unfortunately, my first exam is on Thursday.
Somebody bring a GoPro so I can live vicariously! I'm imagining a really cool training montage... :D

PS Have a wee read of the gear lending policy (http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,10611.0.html), these groups look rock solid, but just to be sure everyone's on the same page 8)
