Title: Boyne Saturday 28-2-15
Post by: Vettie on February 24, 2015, 20:03:02
Another action-packed few weeks in store. Get your paddling in before mid-term brings its river cravings!! It’s a busy, jam-packed, forget-study last two weeks!   afro.gif afro.gif afro.gif

Saturday Trip
When: This Saturday February 28th
Where: Liffey

The plan:   Meet at the Boathouse at 10am
For anyone who has no idea where this superior storage house is, give Andy a text on 085 789 7269 or Ross on 087 245 6200 if you’re not sure where to go!
We’ll pick our boats & gear, load everything onto the trailer and then pile onto the bus!  :police:  ???

What to bring:
€10! This covers the cost of the bus and instructors

Warm clothes!!!! (avoid cotton at all costs! It makes you very, very cold when you’re wet). Anything made out of 'poly-' materials is a good bet!  Fleeces are great! Fleecy pyjamas are even better! Tights make a good layer, especially to pop over your fleecy layers before trying to put on a wetsuit (even the lads should consider investing!!) If you have a wetsuit bring it! If not, the club has a small selection of them...try to get to the boathouse on time to get first pick!  :o

You can never, ever have enough layers!!!
So here’s your essential guide to keeping nice and toasty on the river; http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,10222.0.html (http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,10222.0.html)

A pair of old shoes! (Or wet booties if you have them). For this trip socks won’t work...the water is going to be low, so if you come out of the boat, you'll be stepping on rocks (which is not fun in socks!) If you don't have a pair, pop into your local Penneys or Tesco and pick up a pair of cheap shoes!

Towel and warm, dry clothes for afterwards!  evil.gif

Some hot stuff!Flasks of tea, soup, hot blackcurrant...they'll all be much appreciated on the bus home!!  And chocolate bars or cereal bars!!  Nothing better than some sugar after a fun day on the water (avoid things that aren't in wrappers though, cause you won’t want to wait to wash your hands before eating them!)

So for the moment, we're planning on running this trip as a private car/van trip on the Liffey as we currently don't have an instructor.  In order to cover the cost of the van rental, petrol for the drivers, it'll still be €10 per person :)

So far we have capacity for 23 people, (Johannes driving the van, Aoife, Steve, Nicki and Greg driving cars) If anyone else has a car and would be willing to drive to the LIFFEY please let us know and we can take more people on the trip :)

Sign up is now closed.

This will be run as a private trip, which means that you will have to fill out gear borrowing forms that Steve I think will have. The difference with this is that there will be no instructors, and no bus. We will be going to the Liffey. This being a private trip means this has got nothing to do with UCD, other than the college owning the gear.
