The freestyle summer series is here with a freestyle competition once a month from June to September! Events each month will be held at Clifden tidal hole with a guaranteed feature all summer long!
First event is Saturday 10th of June Registration 4pm at the hole.
Event 2 - Saturday 8th of July
Event 3 - The Clifden Beach Party - 5th & 6th of August
Event 4 - Sunday 17th of September
The series will be split into classes within each category(men's, women's juniors etc)
Expert
Intermediate
Sport
Each competition will feature a Jam format. Three minutes per paddlers in heats of five. Score as many different moves as you can in your heat.
Expert categories will have one 45 second scored ride followed by jam format.
Entry is €5 per single day events (Beach Party will be more to cover BBQ)
We should totally go to one or two of these. There's multiple categories so everyone is catered for. Maybe we could go down a day or two early for people to get used to the feature

Yup, there's actually multiple. There's 10th June, then July august and September which make up a summer freestyle Series this year. Only thing is that the one on the 10th of June is the same time as the phibsborough canoe polo comp so not sure how many people from us will be in Clifden for that date...

Pop my name down provisionally for July and August
-
I could do July 😃

Just in, there'll be freestyle training from the Irish team on the Saturday too 😃

I can actually go to this now :D Anyone still interested?

Them two are almost definites... So means I've one person and boat space if anyone else is temped 😃
-
Depending on whether I get a boat this week. Then possibly.
-
Get ready guys, have your dates booked off. The Clifden beach party is coming up 😃 it's the 5&6th of august. It's basically the same as the other freestyle Series competitions, but everyone camps on the same spot and there's a BBQ 😃 it'd be worth getting a few down for this one as I'd say it'd be mighty craic, even just to be there like.

I'll probably go. Might even consider using the college van if there are enough people interested in going.

Anyone thinking of going travelling Friday to get a practice session in before the competition?
I have booked Friday off work so I can go early.
-
Yeah I'd be tempted. Don't work Fridays so I'm good 😃

I've signed up and registered. Just need to get some practice in.
Also there is an inflatable class. Are there any inflatables left in the containers?
-
Im not really sure what an inflatable is but I'm gonna say I dont think so, I didnt see anything like that when we were tidying and clearing the BH (just to give you a quick answer:) )
-
pretty sure the pool was leaking last time we used it at varsities so we threw it out.
-
Evie, inflatables are also known as "blow up" or pool floats.
Also never look up what a looner is or inflatophilia, just don't your life will be happier not knowing what those things are.
-
I won't be coming. (going to donegal instead :))
kieran, tempt me, but im not going to look those up for now

Certainly won't be looking them up on my work computer, DSP would not approve (or looking up at all!)

Very successful weekend. The four of us got a medal position in every event we entered. Simon won the boater-X, I came 3rd. Aoife won ladies sport. Mark came 2nd ( I think ) in mens sport and won a shinny new helmet. I won the inflatable class. Simon came first in mens intermediate as well.
The red van made it over and back across the country incident free. The beach party was good craic too.
We tried to paddle Aasleigh falls when it was at 1.269m on the gauge. Looked a lovely level but inland fisheries asked us to leave. I'll do a longer post on this later.
FYI for future planning fuel and tolls return to Clifden for the red citroen dispatch van worked out at 107.6 euro return.

Nice one! sounds like a good weekend overall guys :D
