maybe... but I think I'd rather have a zen.
maybe.
-
Yeah, tis temptin but i do like my zen's.....
-
if I get an ipod is there all kinds of weird DRM blahness or can I still listen to whatever I want and keep it indefinitely? will an ipod work with other software than itunes? (I know nothing about this stuff)
-
no only works with itunes, it will auto convert your wma files to m4a though so you dont need to wory about format....
Im interested mark.... will see how much money i have :) :)
-
it's not format I'm worried about, it's losing my music. I need to know I'll be able to freely copy my music, burn it to discs, transfer it to another computer if I ever get one, put it on a different mp3 player if I change, etc.
I don't know much about DRM but I gather apple are a bit sketchy for that stuff (yes/no?). In particular, will iTunes retroactively restrict the mp3s I already have? it hardly could, right?
I need someone to explain it to me.
-
DRM only comes with DRM MP3s, so you just stay away from those. They're dying out anyway because everyone hated them so much. You can move music on and off iPods easily using freely-available non-Apple software (I use yamipod.com's thingy). I have an iPod running iTunes software but never got an iTunes account because I don't need one - I get all my music from other downloads, from CDs, or other computers. If you're worried about Apple retroactively fucking with you, load all your music to a computer and then on to the iPod, so you have back up.
All the things you listed, you can do with the iPod. I'm sure it's the same for the Zen.
Jim.

ok cheers
do ipods still break all the time and have crappy batteries?
-
the only problem with ipods is if you sync your music on to it you cant just plug it into another computer and upload it onto it. you can however use your ipod as an external harddrive and upload files (most formats... movies, word files etc on to it to move them....
-
I've had an iPod Classic for a few years now with no breaking problems. I think the battery problem was solved a generation or two back, but I don't know - I use mine in the car a lot, so it's constantly recharging as I go.

I just bought the iPod off mark but the fucking things got no earphones!!!
shafted again by the golden basterd!!!!
-
Whatever happened to new and unopened? Demand your money back. He's ripping you off with damn lies.
-
You might be better off without earphones, if it came with earphones he would have forgotten to give them to you the first time, promptly lost them and when you kept on asking say he had found them but would only give them to you in exchange for a boathouse key...
-
you can even use the iPod to store and transfer medical images. the new generation iPod Touch can actually be used to view medical images for reporting. it is awesome.
-
What are you talking about Nuala? Mark would never loose anything!
Especially not Kats car key, for almost 24 hrs & then after abandoning the car over night, making me drive them back (an hour in the wrong direction from home) the next day & having to call out a mechanic just to eventually find it in his bouyancy aid.... no Mark would never do a thing like that! ::)
Do we still have a pig of abuse ??? Can we just rename it Mark?
-
This is going back on the topic a bit but if you want to upload music from your ipod to someone elses computer you just need to download a program called sharepod. It's really easy once you have that. My ipod is 2 years old. I don't know if it's as easy with these "new generation" ipods
things were better in my day

I don't know if it's as easy with these "new generation" ipods
Say it Maria, just say it...
It was better in your day.
-
coramc, the iPod didnt even exist in your day!

Gather round children.
We had the iGramophone. It was portable, if you had transport such as an omnibus or a motorcar; and compact, in larger rooms like the drawing room, but not suitable for smaller rooms such as the scullery or the pantry, or any of the servants' quarters. You could even download music from the shelf above the iGramophone where we kept a load of music.
The best part though was turning the record over for the second half of the album.
Naturally we didn't have time to actually listen to any of the music as we were too busy walking fifty miles to school in our bare feet through the driving snow.
And it was even worse in Winter.
See what you started Cian?
-
So what you're saying is, it was worse in your day....

when you say omnibus is that as in the cornation street omnibus? are you say ing that you needed the entire cast of a tv show to cart this thing around?
