Good morning campers!
So some of you may have seen the post about a ladies polo tournament over yonder? Well, that's just one part of a larger event that's running on the 28-29th, the National Canoe Polo Club Championships!
In a similar vein to the polo competions that we've been entering so far this Summer, we'll (hopefully) be entering a team (or two if there's enough interest) into Div.3 of this competition. So far we've finished fourth, third...so now it's time to win!
This one really will be a ball of fun, and in case you haven't heard, Ellen is bringing a fucking BARGE!
It'll be held in the beautiful village of Clondra, co. Longford. Just a bit away from Longford town, and also just three minutes from this awesome freestyle feature (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHY58fVGNqc) ( if it's working).
We'll be able to camp there and there will be toilet and shower facilities, courtesy of waterways Ireland ( just like in Killaloe)

Helena you're the driver if they want a lift they can come to where you want them...took me years to learn this.

Well there's a bus from UCD called the 66x that goes to maynooth! So yeh we could get that...Getting Jer's playboat down will be another issue though ...Unless Marie comes up...Also papa McGrane said he was down last weekend and that the water is quite high atm so Tarmonbarry could be worth while :)

Ah, sure there's no need for that at all.
There's twelve total if NiallF comes, or eleven if he doesn't. Both the Doyle-mobile and the Ryan-wagon will have some spaces for boats. If Marie drives then more again! The way it is, Helena would drive from Meath so that's ten between Captain and equipment officer and one left over. This could either be Marie driving through Dublin and split the numbers, Marie drives straight there or someone make it out to helena and go with her.
Boom!
ps. the name is staying until it gets funny...
or it could change to something less sappy, like UCD Super-Nova, UCD Pulsar or UCD Neutron-Stars.
You're all just lucky I didn't call the ladies team the "Starlets"

That leaves one spot.
The drive will take about 2 hours, the timetable for the competition isn't up yet, but I'd say we're looking at needing to leave at 08:00.
I'll be leaving from Deansgrange, getting straight on to the M50 at Leopardstown.
Warning: if I find someplace to throw up a tent for Friday night, I'd prefer to drive down then.

Diarmuid is in the wilderness of Kerry and has space in his car, hes also taking boats, and shall be leaving friday evening... :)
ill be leaving from meath so if people are really stuck i could pick ye up in maynooth or kilcock....

(for the record there is rain forecast so Diarmuid does NOT have a tent... :P )

There's loads of place to camp beside the pitches and there's showers and toilets too. Did I not mention those? I though I mentioned those...
There's a pub right there too.
Longford, which has supermarkets and what-not is not too far away at all.
I'll drive Maryanne's car, so that Jer can smear cake on me...go team!

You should really come down on Friday, there'll be loads of fun to be had.
If you have to come down on Friday then you could just get a train or bus to Longford and get someone to pick you up there? It's only about ten minutes away. You don't need to worry about bringing a polo boat...we don't have any and we'll be bringing all the polo gear that we have. Just bring stuff like shorts, swim-suit and plenty of thermals/rash-vests.
Otherwise if Lorcan is coming down then he'll probably be coming down on Saturday midday. Timetables would be useful here...
and a sleeping bag!
Ellen, I'm sure that Maryanne would love to have you! The Doyle-wagon might have to make a bit of a detour to pick up some boats in Cavan, adding about an hour.
Diarmuid should have loads of room too! and I believe he's driving down on Friday and leaving from the boathouse.

okay perfect I'll just take the train in to Longford on Saturday morning cause I have a thesis meeting late on Friday, I'll contact/bribe a driver to pick me up and I guess the time will depend on the schedule of games slash driver preference. Should I pm my ICU number to you Niall?

continuing on with my summer of never knowing from one day to the next where im working, i am currently in kildare and unsure how long that will last.... whoevers short on lifts itll prob be last minute when i find out where im driving from so stay in touch ellen, and whoever else is stuck!

Yup, I can't go til I finish work (probably 19:00) but more importantly the car can't go til mum's done with it.
Saturday 08:00 is definitely free, I'll get back to you if Friday evening is free.

Actually, yeah you're right, the numbers have dropped off a bit, and your car is massive.
Hmm.
I have the car for the evening so I'm good to go tonight, maybe leaving around 8 depending on how quickly I get home, pack and eat.
I wouldn't mind a nap either...I'll just do that in the car :)

UCD Stars: Division 3 National Club Champions
gold medals all round!
We'll have to ring up the sports centre and ask for shelf space for our new trophy :)
We also got a Conti (fancy) polo ball, which will be christened in the new pool.
As for the ladies team, what a debut! Ellen, Marie and Kate were playing for their first time and did excellently, Rachel Molloy was our coach on the pitch and Helena was invaluable in goals and as another experienced presence. We played two the ex-Irish ladies squad who were a pleasure to play against and were happy to give tips during the match...and we even scored agaist them once!
