Hey Stephen,
I'm afraid that this is aimed at people who have a reliable roll. And maybe a couple of other things
It's definitely something that you should look at in the future.
If you're thinking about it but not too sure, or don't want to ask here then feel free to PM/text me/whatever.
-
Would love to depending on l4 training day.
-
yeah i'm up for it. Do you know what Sunday it is yet because i would have to get it off work
-
I'd like to go too... :)
-
Me also, but Nov 11 probably won't suit me
-
Yup
-
I'll be able to do it Sunday actually...
-
Throw my name down sure
-
definitely up for it if level 4 training doesnt go ahead :)
-
so whats the story with this?
-
-
can i swap to the 11th please?
-
Provisionally all good for the 2nd - though it will depend on my head being better by then ! ;D
-
-
nose clip!!!
-
Oh you.
We'll make river-scum out of you yet!
-
I plan on being definitely 100% better in time for the 2nd of December.
-
2nd Dec good
-
So this gives us 3 solid weeks of lording our new shit hot freestyle skills over the people doing it on the 2nd. Better make them count.
-
It would be great if everyone who's going on Sunday could be at the pool today.
I know this might sound weird but we should do some work on rolling. Get a few people and all
try and perfect our rolls, speed them up and maybe pick up a few new ones. Rolling is one of those fundamental things that you can never do too well.
I can assure you that a quicker roll is something that you're really going to appreciate come Sunday
BRAINFREEZE
It's also after a long day, especially if it's cold that you start to get lax, so a bit of tweaking today could make the difference of a swim at the weekend.
Let's BOMB-PROOF those rolls.
-
Wear swim hats on Sunday. Don't think, just do it. Stop thinking!
-

I don't use one cause I've a massive head but I bought an earwig nearly seven years ago still in good working order even after only been used for cold freshers on rivers.
-
who exactly is driving on sunday and how many spaces have we got. apparantly im not allowed drive cus those roofracks are too dodgy so i'll be needing space!
-
Marie should be one,
other one TBC
We have to be at Stackallen for 11, so should we say everybody get to the boathouse for nine? and we'll work it all out then.
-
Ya, I'll be driving. Cillian has already dibsed a spot in my car so I'v space for two more boats! This day sounds like it's going to be class .... Hoooorah!!
Also, I'll try my best to be at the pool session tonight to tweak my roll, I'v an exam in the morning so it will depend on how prepared I feel.
-
Can I dibs a spot in your car as well Marie?
-
Seat 2 - reserved for Derv

Probably be happening mostly in the latter half of the session if that helps?
-
The Doyle family have been kind enough to lend me their car for the day too, so I'll also be driving.
9am at the boathouse -
There's enough room for everybody so it doesn't really matter who goes where, it's ok to work it out on the morning.
I can however guarantee that my car will feature "Choons"
Don't forget about the pool tonight!
-

So not on the topic of freestyle training, but still, in case anyone isn't aware:
If there is rubbish on the floor, wrappers between the seats, crumbs on the seats, new scratches on the paintwork or any other alterations to the state of the car the only way for me to avoid bearing the full brunt of my mother's wrath will be if I bring her the heads of the people who did it to guarantee they won't be in the car again.
And I'll do it.
Have fun paddling!
-
soetimes i wish there was a like button on this board :D

How have our parents never met?....:)

awesome day today guys, learnt a ton :D
-
just chancing my arm, but is there any chance of going on the second day too or is there a number limit? Today was class, wouldn't mind learning a bit more/getting more comfortable with some of the moves.

I think it is number dependent, but check this out: http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,10897.0.html

I've updated the lists in the top post.
So...What did everybody think of the session on Sunday?
Was it what you were expecting?
Did you learn much?
Would you do it again?
Is there anything else that you would like to have done?
Ronnie was quite keen for me to ask you guys what you thought and to get any feedback that he could.
Ronnie said that it would be possible for one or maybe two people to come along again if the wanted.
(nobody in particular, just limiting to 1-2 because the group would be getting very big at that point)
Marie, I've stuck your name down
-
Here's a quick checklist of questions you can answer to help out Ronnie, feedback is a two way street and essential for learning. Learn to critically assess the instruction you're given.
1: Was the instructor friendly
2: Did instructor seem organised
3: Did they explain things well
4: Was their demonstration clear
5: Were corrections done one on one or generally to the group or did the instructor point out particular flaws of the individual to the group as a whole
6: Was there a clear lesson plan
7: Did you achieve any specified goal
8: Did your instructor help you set and achieve a goal
-
Ah...
If only a bunch of highly intelligent and highly educated university students were capable of analyzing a situation for themselves and forming a cogent critique...
Oh if only...
(then there probably wouldn't be the need for an older member with nothing better to do to patronise them...)
More crayons!
-
You're right, I've never had any issue with students giving course feedback in my 8 years as a demonstrator or tutor nor have I had issues as an instructor (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Course+feedback+forms)
I would add I was trying to be helpful not patronizing.

Cheers
I really enjoyed the day on Sunday. Stackallen was a good spot for it too, the wave is a lot more forgiving than sluice. It's a bit of a trek to get there but there's not much that we can do about that. I thought that starting on the very basics was really good and Ronnie didn't take it for granted that we already knew the fundamentals. He was really good at looking at what you were doing and then telling ya straight after what you did right, what you did wrong and then how to fix it. By the end of the session I saw a big improvement in catching the wave, my carving and control while on the wave. I noticed I was getting tired towards the end of the session and I could see myself getting a bit sloppy. Maybe making the session a bit more compact might be good, like moving on from the carving a bit sooner.
All in all, I thought it was a brilliant day and as I'v said in an earlier post, would love to do it again!
-
Bump!
A quick reminder to everyone that this is happening on Sunday!
-
Is there still room for me on this?
-
Yup!
-
Whoop! Whoop!! :D
-
Driving, space for 3. Driver caffeine rule.
-
Can I grab a spot in your car Bill please?
-
Driving, space for 3-4
-
Not 100% sure I'll be able to do it - will talk to you this evening Niall.
-
So I'll be driving as well but I won't be coming back to UCD, I'll be going straight to Cork.
-
Anyone who wants a lift text me so I know. Will be out of computer contact for a few hours today. Laptop's at the laptop doctor...
-
so what time are we meeting in the morning? Is it at Stackallen for 11am again?
-
Driving, space for 3-4
Still working on that assignment.
I'm going to have to not go to this.
Have to get this assignment and report done.
Hope it's excellent, hate to miss it.
-
Yikes,
I left this a bit late.
I've been sleeping a lot.
9.30 at the boathouse tomorrow.
Me and Bill driving.
Bring warm stuff.
-
