Hey Hey Guys !
It's that time of the year ! It's the big one, the full pounder, the full monty (not necessarily going to happen), the main event ........ well you get the point.
That's right it's time for UCDCC's annual trip to
Kerry !
The trip will be happening from 27th December until 3rd January ! Yes that's right you get to spend New Year's with the club ! We'll be staying in the lovely village of Glenbeigh, in the same houses as last year (for any Oldies wondering).
This trip be will different from others in that there will be no club bus down. People will be driving down and it's up to yourselves to organise lifts. To organise lifts have a look at this thread : http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,11195.0.html
Another option is to get a bus/train to Kilarney/Kilorglan and organise with someone to pick you up.
Hey guys we've worked out the prices and it's as following:
1 Night - €20
2 Nights - €35
3 Nights - €50
4 Nights - €65
5 Nights - €75
6 Nights - €80
7 Nights - €80 (7th Night absolutely free if you go for the rest!)
That's right boys and girls... Stay 6 nights and get your 7th ABSOLUTELY FREE!
The club will provide breakfasts and dinners for however many days you stay down. But bring extra money for pub/drink/food.
There will be plenty of kayaking do don't forget your kayaking gear and the club boats etc. will be brought down too !
This will be an absolutely amazing week for you guys and it's great oppurtunity to meet oldies you haven't yet met and get some cracking kayaking done !
Other University Kayaking Clubs will be in attendance too! So the craic will be almighty ! I even hear Rachel McKinney is bringing her club all the way from Edinburgh ! We'll also have a super amazing happy fun time table quiz - which is one to remember !
If you've any questions lettuce know
See you all there !

Since there's a whole new crop of freshers who haven't gone to Kerry before there's no harm going over some of the tips for getting a lift to Kerry and more importantly, getting one back.
Getting a lift:
There's no bus to Kerry, so you need to get a lift.
Post up here http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,11195.0.html that you're looking for one or if you're driving
BUT you don't have a lift until you've contacted the driver (phone/facebook/PM etc) and they've confirmed that you're in their car.
Petrol/diesel:
Everyone in the car needs to chip in to cover this, the trips down and back are the big ones, but don't forget the shuttles to the river! They're all small, but can add up to quite a bit. Fuel's more expensive these days, so make sure you don't sting someone who's nice enough to bring you to the shop, to the river, to Finian's bay or other adventurous locations.
Gear v cars:
Some simple tips to keep the cars in good nick:
- bring a black sack/something waterproof to sit on to save the seat
- wipe grit off paddle blades before putting them in the car
- put your stuff in a bag, not straight in the boot (also cuts down on losing gear)
Boats v cars:
- the trailer will bring the boats down, but you'll have to get a lift to the river each day AND find a spot on a roof for the boat you're using
- if you haven't tied boats on to rooves before ask someone to show you how and to check that what you've done will hold
- be careful when there are boats on the roof, if they fall off they can do serious damage to a car (wing mirror, scrapes down the whole side)
- watch out for the buckles on straps, if they fall/swing into the body of the car they can take out proper chunks of paint
Food & common sense:
Seems to basic to mention, but it's not, don't leave food wrappers/crumbs/half sandwiches etc behind you
Woopwoop! I will 100% definitely be there for at least 2 days, but then I think I'm being kidnapped by the MC. They do have a lot of rope.
Pfft yeah but we can throw ours easier !

woho cant wait
13 days to go! Unless the mayans were right but I doubt it.
I'll be staying in a club house 27t to the 2nd!
Hey guys just to say that there is no ATM in Glenbeigh (Village where we're staying) and I'm almost certain there's no laser machine in the pub, (Trying to look through the fog of last year and I can't remember one).
This will mean that you'll either have to bring your cash with you or take money out anytime you pass through Kilorglan during the Week !
Bring on Kerry woop woop !
Has the ATM from the petrol station been removed? The petrol station does have a laser machine and do cash back.
To be honest Kieran I don't know, I just remember last year having to get my money in Kilorglin
Yeh last year the petrol station still had an ATM and does cashback. Niall, you're a chump.
A grade A chump at that Asho !

I believe it's Donegal, which is pretty far from Kerry. But still, don't count yourself out before you've explored your options!
Emmett from Trinity (he's in NUIG now I believe) will be going from Donegal, and Trinity Dee. They're both lovely!
what time are people planing to arrive on the 27th?
im not looking for a lift, but looking at bus times it looks like the latest i can arrive on the 27th is 15:50.
so woundering when people will get there
Not gonna make it this year guys. First missed kerry in 6 years!!!
Have the craic and a word of widom ;-) to all the freshers. You're gonna party hard down there, BUT! Remember, this doesn't mean you can't go on every club trip! You'll wake up with the committee shouting at you, you'll feel like shit and the last thing you'll want to do is get up and get in to a wet wetsuit and go paddlin in the cold but that's exactly what u must do!!!
Kerry is the best time of the year but the best part of it is the amazing club trips so don't flake on paddling just because of a hangover, you'll regret it!! Enjoy guys!!!
GET UP , GET OUT, GO BOATING!
If someone could bring a 3 phono to scart adaptor that would be awesome! I forgot it so no movies if we can't get one :(
won't be arriving down til saturday, hope the next two days are unrail :D
If any one sees this! I shall be arriving down tomorrow till the 1st! (Forgot to post on here)
