Title: Extracurricular L2 training - 07/02/13 & 08/02/13
Post by: Maryanne on February 04, 2013, 12:29:27
Hey guys,

There are some L2 instructor assessments being run this week on the Liffey, for the instructors to be assessed instructing they need some paddlers around L2 standard to instruct.

All the boats and gear will be provided and the course will run on the Liffey starting at Lucan.
The courses are:
10:00-12:00 Thursday
14:00-16:00 Thursday
11:30-13:30 Friday

Since all the instructors will be trying to show off their very best instructing skills you should get the best instruction they can do! All of these sessions are free since you would be participating as a volunteer.

So, who's free at those times and would like to go out for a paddle?

About 200m from the M50 bridge towards town in strawberry beds. Just look it up on the website canoe.ie

It's not being run by Canoeing Ireland, I was told it was starting at Lucan (as I said above) so you can get busses there easily enough. I've asked exactly where and will update when I know.
I've asked if the CI centre will be used and I'll update when I know.

Garbhan and Ross, which of those three times suit you? As far as I know, there's no problem if you want to do more than one.

Ok thats fine I can cycle, but then you said they would provide boats and gear, so do we just tell them what we need in advance or something else?

Yep.
Can I have your email address? I'll pass it on and you can arrange the gear use separately.

I'll double check, but I'd say it's arrive by the starting time (I'd be there 5-10mins early to be safe), then put the gear on, and they'll start doing the safety talk and warm ups, then on the water soon after.

Guys for the trainee instructors being assessed this is one of the toughest most stressful day in your paddling career.
So try to make it pleasant for them dont be late. Have yourself organised and ready to go. Dont forget whatever gear you need to bring.

After that have fun! :D

Great stuff!
The course is being run by Jenny Kilbride, an ex-UCDCC paddler who now runs her own kayaking company.
I'll be very busy tomorrow, so if anyone else is interested you can contact Jenny directly on info@kayaking.ie
She should be able to sort you out for boats and gear, but don't forget things like old runners, togs, thermals (nothing cotton)...

It's a great opportunity anyway and anyone who's free should go for it :)

This is an excellent opportunity lads, if ye can at all make it down! As was said the instructor candidates will be doing their best to impress, so the coaching ye'll get should be very good!
