DCPL meeting
There will be a meeting on Thursday the 14th of February for all players interested in playing in the DCPL this season.
The agenda of the meeting will be to pick teams according to the players' goals, nominate and select team captains and mentors and collect the registration fee.
The registration fee for last semester is still owed, so if you have not paid towards that please attend to figure that out.
The meeting will be from 19:30-20:30 and anyone who wants to play but cannot attend should reply to this post before the meeting so that their preferences are known.
Returning players
We have one team entered in div 3 and one team entered in div 4. There were some issues in the last league that there were nights when too few players attended. Please indicate clearly if you plan on being at every match with some exceptions (sick, had to go home, college work crisis) or if you in fact are only interested in polo in a casual way.
Beginners
So over the last two weeks you have probably all seen canoe polo played in the pool and I know a lot of people were interested in giving it a go.
We have registered two beginner teams in the DCPL (Dublin Canoe Polo League) for the coming season and this would be the perfect opportunity to start an involvement in the sport. Division 5 (where these beginner teams would be) has only four teams in it who are all starting out. Each team would get to play the others several times so you'll be able to see your progress with each rematch.
Matches are on Friday nights every 3 weeks or so in St. Joseph's pool in Cabra. If you don't drive you can get a bus straight from UCD. UCD teams use polo boats that are kept on sight but need to bring paddles, BAs, helmets and spray decks. If you don't have your own you can borrow from the club. Club gear is collected from the boathouse before matches and returned there after.
Mentors
If you've played polo before and you're interested in mentoring a beginner team, either by playing with them or attending their matches as a coach, please let us know.
Team Captains
There is some administrative work associated with polo matches; like making sure the team knows when they have a match so that they can all attend, making sure enough gear is brought to the pool for matches and handling other requirements like making sure when it's your team's turn to keep the score/time that there are people doing it.
Other ideas would be organising a team night out at the end of the season (or before, or with all the other teams) and helping with things like a raffle to raise money for the DCPL registration fees.
Registration fee
The registration fee for each team is €250, it has been suggested that all players participating in the DCPL for the first time should pay less while returning players should pay more.
The club can subsidise the extra, but if all the teams are small we may have to increase the player fee across the board.
UCD Supernova
- div 3 team
- 12 matches this season
- proposal: they pay €24 (€2/match) or €36 (€3/match)
- as the UCD team in division 3 of the league the Supernova team is a competitive team intended for players with a definite interest in playing polo consistently at a high level and whose attendance is guaranteed (bar unforeseen circumstances)
UCD Space Cadets
- div 4 team
- 12 matches this season
- proposal: they pay €24 (€2/match) or €36 (€3/match)
- as the UCD team in division 4 the Space Cadets team is a development team intended for players with a definite interest in improving in polo and who will attend matches consistently (bar unforeseen circumstances).
UCD Flares
- div 5 team
- 12 matches this season
- proposal: they pay €12 (€1/match) or €18 (€1.50/match)
- as a new UCD team in division 5 the Flares team is intended for beginners to polo who want to experience the sport and progress from a basic level.
UCD Stars
- div 5 team
- 12 matches this season
- proposal: they pay €12 (€1/match) or €18 (€1.50/match)
- as a new UCD team in division 5 the Stars team is intended for beginners to polo who want to experience the sport and progress from a basic level.
For all player fees: this will be easier to collect in one payment up front rather then in small amounts each week. The breakdown as to how much the player fee is per match is just for scale.

I plan on withdrawing from polo this season but will attend the meeting to discuss last season's fees.

I won't be able to attend there meeting. I'd be ineterested in one of the beginners teams and would attend most matches bar a few
Its only one Friday night a month I could definitely make that. I may possibly/ hopefully have a job ;D
that would impede on my Friday nights but you have giving us the dates so it can be worked out.
