I am in! AND signing up before Wednesday 8)
Hopefully the broken toenail will be healed and I'll be in a playboat :)
Either way, I'll be available to help with rescue, but only in a "tell me where to go" role.
If an instructor is willing to sign multiple log books, I'll do that, but if there's a limit, I'll drop out to leave space for someone else (I've got all my hours).
KAYAKING EXPLOSION!
-
I'll be there with bells on! And several layers!! :D
-
I'll be there - I'm doing level two training, hopefully that's alright!

Yup definitely, level 3 training for me. If its the liffey, can I make my own way there as its closer to me ? I can still pay the full fee.

Sounds ok, once you sort out that someone will pack you all the gear you need.
We'll update the destination once we know for sure.

I have done in the past and it really makes the day, but im not up for Sluice just yet. I wanna get myself good and healthy first.

Sounds like a sensible call!

I mite be able to go but if I say yes now can I still pull out later in the week if I can't make it?
-
I'm probably going to head to sluice early on Saturday for a freestyle session.
I've space for 3 more in the car if anyone's interested I'll only be going to sluice then heading around 1 as I'm off to Barcelona after.:-)

Also meant to say i'd be interested in L3 training

If you have to pull out then you have to pull out, but make sure to let us know.
I'm assuming that since you're signing up it's unlikely that you'll pull out?

SIGN UP IS NOW CLOSED

When would you be arriving at sluice? And are you going from UCD?
-
Yeah I'm not working! Ill be there!
Just to clarify: do you want to work on L3 skills or would you prefer to rescue?
We could put you in a group where you could do both fo course.
-
Whichever really. I think I'm ok for level 3 stuff!
-
On which river do we plan on holding the actual level 3 assessments? Is the liffey classed grade 2 or do we need to go to wicklow?
-

I can come down and collect anyone from the boathouse. Plan on getting to sluice for 10:30-11:00.
So would be at the boathouse for 10 quickly tie up boats and leave at 10:15 no faffage, no waiting for anyone who's late. Though I will need directions to the boathouse as the last time I was at a boathouse it was in the services yard.
Laters,
Stephen

Ye it's unlikely that I'll pukll out just checking that it's ok

I assume we're going to Liffey this Saturday seeing as some people are going to sluice before hand yes ?
-
Driving might go into sluice this time and fall over.

The assessments will be on grade two water, so the Liffey or the Boyne most likely.

I actually just assumed that without asking...we should have a definite answer by this evening.

Maryanne has pretty much covered all the bases but theres one or two things I'd like to add for whoever will be in my group whether it's trainees, rescue or level 2 or 3s.
1. Trainee Instructors: Make a plan if you have a few minutes today.
What you want to do. Where you want to do it. What your goals are.
You don't have to write it but I find it really structures my thoughts and my session when I do. (You dont have to say"what next..."). I usually write down all of the features and flat strecches between them and what I plan to do on each. Don't worry too much about it if it doesn't go the way you hoped be flexible and enjoy yourself.
2. Rescue Read over Maryanne's post about rescue if you get a chance. Think in advance about what your going to do for rescue so your being proactive rather reactive. Anticipate where people may capsise, where they may swim and where you want to get people and gear afterwards. Then position yourself accordingly so you can maintain as much lateral momentum as poossible rather than stop start.
Experiment. If you have an idea or a suggestion throw it out there, give it a try. There's lots of ways of tweaking recue setup to suit yourselves.
Work as a team. As the rescue crew, think about working together rather than as individuals to carry out rescue.
Enjoy it. :D
3 Level 2 and Level 3 people Look at the links Maryanne posted to the sylibi. If there's anything your unsure of or want to work on tell us in the morning.
Have fun and try everything. Dont worry too much about the stress of getting everything right, if your getting stuck in and enjoying the river your probably styling it.
Ask questions we cant help if we dont know theres a problem :D
Peace out everyone see you tomorrow,
Dave.

Like.
I mean there isn't a like button and it seems a bit sad to use it on the message board...but how else do I express agreement with/approval of Dave's comment without actually wanting to put any effort into my response.
hmm...

Hey guys,
The feedback about how everyone in the L2 and L3 groups got on was really positive, well done everyone!
One thing that was mentioned was that since it was cold we didn't go through x-rescues or capsize drills, so make sure to practice them in the pool!
As well as anything else that requires capsizing or time in the water (eg roll).
