Sorry Steven I'm down home for this week, and then moving home and leaving for the Alps the week after exams.

The Canoeing Ireland website says this: "Attended an Irish Sports Council approved Child Protection Awareness Workshop" - it doesn't mention an ethics course; unless you'd get certified for both?

That's what this is. Or The Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport in Ireland  to use the proper title.

You guys could advertise it to more people(other clubs, other colleges) if you wanted to get the cost down. I think that you can take about 20-30 people on these courses (that's about how many I remember being there).

I contacted the South Dublin County Sports Partenerships and they said max group of 16 (if they come to UCD anyway)

No worries :) This is definitely the correct course though yes? Also are you interested??

I wrote a full description of the course and what-not a few weeks ago but can't find it, I think it might have been in the nominations section...

Anyway, the answer is a firm "yes"

It's the standard course for anyone in the country in any sport.

I'm interested in taking this course, but I finish work at 6:05 p and wouldn't be able to get to UCD until half 6 at the earliest, so I don't think a weekday evening would work for me.

Wouldn't mind getting this done but I'm not sure if I'll be in Dublin this week. After the exams would probably suit a bit better.  I think I'll leave this one for another time.

Would rather do it after exams, but a night late this week would be grand, I won't be up until then

I'm good for everyday this week except for Friday, after exams doesn't suit me though because I'm back on placement on the 20th

Talking to my sister today, new guidelines say that if we have a 17 year old in the club the person buddied up to them on a river must be Garda vetted. Sounds a bit weird but it might be worth talking to UCD about getting the committee vetted?

I'm Garda vetted atm for lifeguarding if that kinda thing carries over?

Yeah, I'm vetted for a summer camp too.

Niall F, surely you're garda vetted?

No, you need to get vetted separately for each thing

That's true Aoife, as the results go back to whatever employer you get Garda vetted for.
Seems a bit OTT in my opinion, but no harm either I suppose. In my experience when dealing with children it is generally advisable to have another witness present.

Not sure if this is an insulted thrown in my general direction or if it's an actual legitimate inquiry. Yes Ross I have been Garda Vetted before but as the guys say it won't carry over

Great course! I'd thoroughly recommend this to anyone, regardless of whether you're planning on being an instructor the information is very good and worth knowing for general use in life. Very useful for anyone who's in a sports club, which is everyone in UCDCC :D

Thanks for organising that Steven!
