Turns out you can enter categories of this race if you're under 23!

They'll probably have a good release. Could be a bit of banter.

jeez might actually stand a chance of winning in the canadian!! afro.gif

That could be fun!

Got briefly curious, then realised that I won't be under 23 when September rolls around.
Still, I advocate a tactical entry by as many UCDCC people as possible!

Good thing it's on the 18th of May so!! This one is the junior event and it's separate from the main one in September. The only thing that may affect people is if they have an exam that day.
So who's around? This could be fun!

And again with excitement! Only to remember I've an exam on the 18th. I believe it's on form 15:00-17:00, so thoroughly in the way.

I'm very interested, finished exams the day before, so will be looking forward to this...
-
Ooh! I like the sound of this!! :D
-
Perhhhhapsssss. But maybe rescue either?

The words of Ronan Keating comes to mind...."life is like a roller coaster, just got to ride....all night long!!!"

Just out of curiosity about what the competition would be like, I looked at last years JLC results. There was a total of TWO under 23 paddlers, one male GP and male K1...it would be a sin not to enter this and win!
-
Booking the Gola now in case I'm doing it. Fast boats mmmhmmmm.
-
Didn't even see this before I posted on facebook but I'd be well up for this! Probably GP but if someone wants to do C2 or T2 I wouldn't mind.
-
Unfortunately I have an exam in the RDS at 11 that day so I don't know
-
*until 11

Depends how quickly you can get to Salmon Leap evil.gif Don't have to pick up your bib till 11.30 and you could always do the exam in your paddling gear :P
-
I reckon I'm in :) Thinking GP for myself :)

If you're fast enough to make it to Salmon Leap by 11.30, you'll definitely win the race!
If it's only from Salmon Leap too, that's a pretty nice distance. Damn my advancing age...
I guess I'll have to actually enter the other one this year...
-
How long is the race? I'm finished exams 14th so I'd be up for it as long as I'm home for work later!!
-
^-^ million miles or the lower section of the liffey descent plus lake 11.5km plus portage
-
Its not that bad, it sounds horrifically long (twice the length of the varsities long distance) but it's ALL down stream and there's always a descent enough release so its actually moving water :) and with the weirs along the way it's broken up nicely! From what I can remember the worst part was the lake and the portage but only because I was WAY too hot to be paddling across a lake and then battle my way to a space on the bank to get out, after that it was a bit of craic!
-
Having done the Descent for the first time last year I can't recommend it enough - is great craic altogether. You feel tired after it but is so worth it ! I would say though that it was made easier from having 3 of us in a boat - people to talk to like ! Though I don't know how good it was to have those people being Jer and Eoghan !! ;D ;D
-
LOL

I did the LD and I'm super lazy and unfit. If I can do it anyone can :)
