What is REC 3? Whats involved in it and what advantage is there in doing it? Please explain.
I'd like to re-new my REC 3
Ciarain, it stands for Rescue Emergency Care, it's a first aid course that teachs you all the basics.
Sara
It may also cover your occupational first aid as well, accelerated rec3 and level4 for me please, would like maybe 3-4 weeks to do level four.
Chears Sara!
Sign me up for REC 3 so.
Rec 3 please! this might be a silly question but is it done on the river or is it theory based?
Rec 3 acc and l4 please Mark (085-7637958), Jen the REC courses are first aid general stuff - similar to what you'd do with the St Johns Ambulance Corps or something like that, It's not based on a river. However if Keoghser or someone is running it for a kayaking club they will probably focus it on the likely watersports injuries. It's basic and what you need. If you're looking for something more there is a company called CDS (Clean Dry Socks - I'm actually not pulling the piss here) who provide Wilderness First Aid courses, it's focussed more on you being many hours away from medical assistance and therefore being the primary caregiver. not necessary here in Ireland if you have a mobile phone.
Done in the class room, but the lads can tell you more. Here is a website
http://www.climbmts.co.uk/First_Aid.html (http://www.climbmts.co.uk/First_Aid.html)
are you organising level 4 training and assesment?(kayak)

Didn't see that sorry ::).
up date for REC 3 please for me
Hey.
Sara, your REC3 is in date for another year, just in case that's why you're renewing it.
For Level 4, you should be confident at some intemediate rescues and be able to piss all over the Annamoe. Nothing on the Annamoe should cause you any major difficulty.
Mark, I'm around this weekend to do an assessment if you want. I'm not free the following two weekends but I'm freeing up a bit after that.
Deffo PUT ME DOWN FOR ANY REC COURSE GOING.
As for assessments, I might be available to run some provided:
1. We start earlier than 2pm
2. Those being assessed are really ready for it.
3. Those being assessed listen to instructions given and follow said instructions, especially when running wiers. ::)
4. You'll have me back........
Put me down for a Rec 3 but if there are people interested in doing the Rec 4 even better.
Thanks,
Ash
would like to do my level three....am definitely need some training!
yes to rec 4 also
REC3 please. Need to renew my existing one. Didn't realise I was that old :(
Am interested in the REC 4, but as far as I know they're only run once every few years and only about 10 people ever do them because it's a week-long course and instructors are flown in from the UK or the US. Is that what all you guys are definately signing up for, or is there some confusion about what the different REC levels are, and what they mean? Remember - kayaking only needs up to REC3. REC4 is for 'medics' accompying expeditions etc etc.
I'm looking at the rec 4 because I'm going away paddling for the summer and I wouldn't mind that bit of extra knowledge and experience before I leave...
Level 3 please, with training, and my Level 2 certificate. Tom?
i have my rec 2. i would like to my rec 3.
Hey diarmaid i dont think anyone actually gets a level 2 cert, that would require you paying for it & admitting that you care whether you have it or not ;)
I have my level 2 cert!! :) And i know certain people who have theres framed in their bedroom!

I did have the cert, very briefly, then noticed my name was spelled wrong. I gave the cert back to have the name fixed up and haven't seen it since. :(
haha... framed. oh, Rob. you so crazy.
I got a â,¬15 fine in Latvia this past week for drinking in the street. I'm hoping to get it framed.
Can i do rec 3 if i've never done rec 2 or 1? (or do these even exist!?)
if it's just a first aid course, and doesn't involve paddlin can i put my name down please. what does it cost, any idea when it'll be?
jen
QuoteI have my level 2 cert!! And i know certain people who have theres framed in their bedroom!
hahah yeah, i got my L2 cert framed up on my wall too... its dated 1998 i was pretty proud of it back then and never bothered taking it down.
I'd be interested in REC 3 and Level 4 Training 2. Siobhan as usual wants to copy me too.
Hey... I need to renew my REC 3 but if a REC 4 course will be organised I'd definitely be interested in that. Tks.
Hey put me down for REC 3 please need to get that sucker renewed. Cheers
i want to do my level 4. and if a Rec 4 course is gonna happen i'd be up for that too.
Put me down for a Rec 3 please. Also, if ye's want a hand with someone to help out preparing people for assessment or assessing L3's give me a shout and I'll see if i can be up in Dublin.
Exactly the same as Catherine - REC 3 please and can prepare/assess Level 3.
Can you do Rec3 without doing Rec 2 (or Rec 1- does that exist?). If you can I'd be interested in doing it. Cheers, Maria
Ok, thanks kmck.
Do you need to have your level three before you can do your level four? Can you do them both on the same day?
Will their be any training for it?
When is it gonna be?
Anyone wanna go p&p at Sluice tomorrow?

I will go if i can get a lift up to dub in the morning!
if a rec 3 is going to be organised it will probably be an accelerated rec3 is a 2 day course runover one weekend and requires no previous first aid knowledge.
as for rec 4 i would imagine that a rec 3 is a requirement but i dont know.
What if you have the french equivelent of a rec 2? can you do the Irish rec3? If so do you reckon he'd teach me in french? I only know first aid through french.
Non ils enseigneront dans l'anglais vous garçon bête

Just thought I'd remind people to look up info on what they're asking to do before they shell out goods bucks to do it. I don't have the time and/or inclination to find it on the web for them. Some student bum, possibly kmck, might, so all may not be lost! ;D
Any update on the REC course Mark?
Just a thought for all of those interested, but the REC 3 training would really only be appropriate for anyone who wants to do an instructor training course or if you are planning on doing a lot of outdoor sports.
Of course there is nothing wrong with first aid training for anyone, but just bear it in mind that you don't need to do it at all as all of the instructors and most of the senior paddlers are trained and qualified and carry first aid kits with us on the rivers.
that post reminds me of a cartoon where one paddler is lying injured on the ground and another padder goes 'where's the first aid guy?', the other's respond 'your looking at him'
Its just my opinon but I think everyone should have a REC3, people use the training for everyday incidents not just outdoors stuff.
Sara
Im up for the level three reckon I'd be able for it after another 3 or 4 river trips/ pool sessions............ 0871350414
Ask Roz about it, she had to put it into action in the dangerous enviroment of a flat. First aid is what they call now a days a life skill, a rec 3 or 2 can do you no harm.
Yeah, Brendino's rihjt. There should only ever be a maximum of 1 first aider pre group. any more than that's a liability.
but who will aid the first aiders... umm.... first?
(coast guard?)
I may be wrong but i think Brendino's point was that there are a few people in the club that need to attain thrire REC 3 or equivalent for certain certificates they are doing. eg. Level 5 Proficency, or any instructorships.
Lorcan
Mark,
Put me down for an accelerated REC7 please. I hear consultants have good contracts ;D
yip, I put it into action in my flat and saved a guy's life... it was two weeks after I did the course so everything was fresh in my head... I really don't think I could do it again after doing the course 4 years ago.
everyone needs first aid and the rec3 is a good one as many groups/clubs/companies etc recognise it. my two cents.
so when is the course???
can kate harris's name be put down for the rec 3 too. is there any sign of one being organised ? i think it should be held in cork.
Yeah mark,When is this alledged course????
