Title: Lost Kayak on the Liffey
Post by: Cli on August 17, 2008, 19:30:08
My Orange Jackson Fun went for an adventure down the Liffey today. I was at Leixlip Hole, swam and the boat floated on down. It was reported at Lucan Garda Station that a kayak was floating down the river, I presume it was mine.

PLease please let me know if you see my boat (answers to Sophie). Spread the word if you can. My number is 0879419520

Thanks,
Cli

Wow that blows, looks like it would've been a good day though:

Water Releases

Leixlip Dam      17/08/2008

TIME

M3/sec

09:00

30 +28 flood spill

13:00

30 +28 flood spill

18:00

30 + 28 flood spill

That should bring a total of 8-9 or so megs out of the dam, before rain increased volume.

Was anything working today or was someone just trying to clean the liffey or something?

Get onto Wildwater Kayak Club and the Garda/ UCD boat (rowing) clubs. They always have people training on the Liffey and might have seen something or even taken it in. Islandbridge, where the rowing clubs are, is the last stop before town/sea. After that, I'd be taking frequent walks along Dublin Bay. I know a guy who took up paddling after he found a boat washed up on the shore. No harm in alerting anyone who is by the sea a lot, sailing clubs, John Power (canoeing and windsurfing courses), Deep Blue Sea Kayaking etc.

Best of Luck.

Bull Island would be a good spot as the drift that causes it may bring it in there.

On a total aside, my mum saw a kayak flow down the river through Avoca on Saturday, minus its Paddler. Probably from the Avonmore.
