Details of the REC 3
Times: 5pm on Friday 26th of March. It will run till about 10pm on Friday then from 9am till 6pm Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th. Please try to be on time - we will be kicked out of the room promptly at closing time each day so there's very little leeway.
Where: UCD Student Centre, meeting room 5.
How much: The course will cost €137.50. This is to be paid to Finch by Wednesday 24th of March. If you are not around UCD or the club much you may be able to organise internet transfer.
What you will need: raingear, a carry mat if you have one, you can bring bouyancies and rescue gear for the scenarios (these won't be on the water). Also if you have a first aid kit you can bring it for advice but if you don't have one don't worry, it's not necessary.
Any other queries contact me.

Mine expires in a couple of months
How much would it cost if you have your Rec 3 but just need to renew it, so sit in as a refreshers course ?
-
count me in please
-

-
Yeah I am interested 9for 3rd year) Cud u put me down?
Sasha
-
Dan - All places on this course are the same price. This course is a full REC3, I think if you want a purely refresher course it has to be set up separately and may take less time but we don't have the numbers to run one.
-
Cool thanks Nuala
-
Just to mention to any freshers out there.........this is entirely a FIRST AID course your standard of paddling doesn't come into it! (just a mistake i made last year :) )
-
Not quite, I seem to remember someone telling me that something will be done on the river too but it's not hard!!
-
Unless it's changed since I did it last, there is no aspect that is done on the river. There maybe scenarios that are tailored to paddling but most first aid takes place on the bank anyway. You could be talking about the SRT or the RSR1 &2, these are taught on the river. I would recomend this to anyone who does not have a first aid qualification and those that do it is a good course for the outdoorsie type person.
-
Depending on location & instructor they can set up scenarios on the river, the one i did with Trinity had a scenario day at the picnic site on the Avonmore... you may have to wear gear & get wet but it doesnt involve paddling.
-
There will be scenarios which will need some paddling gear but they won't be done on the water (the course will probably be run in UCD somewhere). As Eoghan said this is open to everyone who is interested, paddling ability is not important. Also it would be a good idea for anyone who intends to continue paddling to do a REC3 (or equivalent) at some point.
-
Wait, is this not the one that we were supposed to be doing in Glendalough? Staying for the weekend in the IMC hut, no?
-
I thought that was the rescue weekend which was posponed due to blizzards. That will have paddling on it and would be more suitable for more experienced paddlers. REC is a first aid course which is ideal for anyone of any level of paddling skill. If you are planing on going on holiday with friends or just with your family it's good. Chances are you will put what you know into practice at least once in your life and it can make a difference. If you are looking at this and going maybe I'll do that, do it.
-
I'd like to do it please!
-
Is there places left on this Course,
-
Yes, there's still space. I'll put you down on the list.
-
If there's still space I'd love to do this. Thought I wasn't free but I am. Lemme know :)

Details posted in original post. Any problems let me know.

wheres the best place to park in UCd in relation to where the course is running. I dont know the building so directions would be great, or if someone could meet us in ucd and show us where it is that would be Awesome.

If you head in the Clonskeagh entrance and turn left at the first roundabout and right at the first T junction after that you'll be right at it
-
Brilliant thanks
-
Parking wise, it is friday evening so there maybe parking available near the sports centre be careful that you are not in the pay and display section. You can always park near the boat house and walk down. I will be in ucd from around 7:30 am tomorrow so should ahve no problem getting parking fingers crossed.
-
well i wont be arriving that early just to get parking :) thanks for the advice though
-
Dan, just follow the directions that Finch gave and you'll be in the car park right outside the building, it's the one with the atm outside it and the room is upstairs.
-
Thanks for a good weekend all trained up, just don't trust Jer he's a evil guy who will kill you and put the boot in when he thinks no one is looking.
-
All I learned for the whole weekend was that Eoghan can't fake a stroke and skinny people can't wear chain-mail stylishly!!!
Great course!!
-
Ye great course!
ha i was so tired that even though it wasn't needed i was falling asleep in every scenario i was a casualty
and yes that was a severe stroke - decided to switch sides for a second! :)
I learnt that leighton doesn't trust anyone that even after his check he'll start hitting you while your already a casualty saying "what else is wrong with you??"
also, Jer's a dick! ;D
-
Good weekend guys, particularly the scenarios! I got to shoot Kieran with a pellet gun and beat him up.
-
Good work guys - great weekend
If anyone wants one of those first-aid kits he had give the committee a shout cause if there's a few we'll put in an order for people after the exams
