Intervarsity Trials & Pre-varsity Training
« on: January 11, 2016, 16:57:51 »
VarrrrrrsiiiiiiiitieeeeeeeesssssssSo Varsities are coming up, we have been in the process of organising trials for all disciplines. We have got together a weekend of fun for everything varsity related from the 21st-24th. Here are all the dates and information you need to know.

Thursday 21st
We will be running our whitewater trials this day.

The course will be the run into Jacksons and Jacksons itself. Times will be taken but will not be the final deciding factor. The team selection will be based on: the time for your TT & general competency on WW of this grade.

We will have safety on the course so we encourage anyone with their level 3 skills to come and do the trials, even if you dont see yourself going for the team.

We will be meeting at the boathouse at 10:30

Friday 22nd
We will be doing freestyle training and trials. This will take place at Stackallen on the Boyne.

We will run a mini competition and points scored will be taken. The final decision on the team won't be based on the points scored alone. Team selection will be based on the points scored, competence on the feature and on overall freestyle experience. As stackallen is slightly dissimilar to tuam, we decided to go by these selection policies.

We will be meeting at the boathouse at 10 o'clock.

Saturday 23rd
We will be doing long distance. We will head to the Grand Canal at I-Canoe. Long distance will be primarily some training in wobbly boats etc. so trials wont necessarily be done for LD as everyone can take part :)

Afterwards I-canoe will be holding their College Day in store from 12 until 4. All details are here (http://teami-canoe.blogspot.ie/2016/01/college-day-instore-23rd-january-2016.html) but basically there's discounts soup gear talks and demos  ;D ;D ;D

We will be meeting at the boathouse at 10 o'clock.

Saturday 23rd& Sunday 24th
In the evening there is a polo competition being held by Diarmuid in the UCD pool. http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,12394.0.html
Most of the varsity team will be playing at this competition. The team is mostly chosen but some final places will be decided at this competition. Other colleges will be around and there'll be drinks etc after so everyone may as well hang around :)

Saturday 30th & Sunday31st
Teams will have been chosen by now. These two dates we will have a freestyle & WW team trip to GMIT to have a bash at Tuam and the 5 step  ;D ;D

The team has mostly been chosen for polo. The people selected for the polo team will be contacted. People wanting to go to any of the other trials state which trials you are going to come to :). If you want to be on a team but maybe cant make it to a trial contact committee, though people who can come to trials will have a higher chance of making the team. Slalom trials will is planed to take place at another time. This team will include both college types and freshers so everyone should enter in this. One person cannot be on both the whitewater team and the slalom team, but can try out for both 😊

Sluice as a feature does not reflect Tuam in any way, shape, or form. I object so hard. Put my name down  :P (but seriously)

Would like to sign up for WW and freestyle trials. And sure will hop in a LD boat for a while.

Is there any slalom events between now and varsities to compete at and if not would it not be an idea to get someone with slalom experience to do a coaching session. I know it's flatwater and in plastic boats but it could be a very good way to get some points

Is there going to be flat water freestyle trials in the unfortunately likely event that the event will be on the flat?

I'd be up for these anyway, I'll go in whatever Long Distance makes most tactile advantage!

Yup, we are looking into all the options we have for slalom atm.

GMIT have made it clear that there'll definitely be no way that freestyle will be on the flat :)

Although in fairness, the last time it wasn't flat, it was in Castlebar...

Really? That's annoying, when Ronan was making his pitch for Castlebar to host it this year he said he wanted the keep the mass participation event, and I can't see the WW team not making the slalom like. Odd...

I'd be interested I doing the WW ones but not sure that I'll be back in the country on time (arriving at ten on the 21st)

Aside from that I'm up for polo and long distance :-)

Stick me down for the whitewater trials there please, same as Rosser in that I'm happy to paddle whatever for LD. I'm also game for the polo tournament.

Real shame about changing the slalom/whitewater limitation, won't encourage participation like the boater x did last year :(
