(***All utter and complete B@"$#&*t)
So, the time of year has come about for us to set sail to
Lahinch, Co. Clare.
For those of you who may not be aware, (ie. everybody except NML and Safety) Clare is the best place on earth and is practically one of the 7 wonders of the world.
Cancel all your plans, stick it in your filofax NOW:
Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th of November.
The escapism shall begin in the
Clubhouse at 6pm on the Friday, where we'll all meet up for Lovely-Lahinch-Cans.
Our chauffered transport (ie. bus) will be departing UCD at 7pm.
Return time is: Sunday-evening-at-some-time o'clock.
This therapeutic get away requires a small cost of €55. Which you can give to any committee member ASAP to secure your place.
The plan of action is:
a) THE TAKEOVER (travel down and take on Lahinch on the Friday night)
b) NAUTICAL APPROACH (surf kayaking on Saturday)
c) CAMOUFLAGE MISSION: 90s KIDS!!!(for night out on Saturday night)
d) OPERATION AQUA (river trip in Castleconnell on the Sunday, en route home)- Please note, as before, fancy dress is taken very seriously and anyone who does not obey the above orders will be subjected to punishment and ridicule. [see "banana of shame" on our FB page]
- Breakfast will be provided on both Saturday and Sunday Mornings and dinner will be cooked in house on Saturday night. (Everyone pray for more than one pot this time...)
-
To get kitted and fitted out for the above mission make your way to the Boat Pack at any time on Thursday the 10th between 5-8pm or on Friday the 11th between 4:30-6pm.Other apparatus that will be required:Money for any snacks, chocolate, alcohol, or last minute costume props you may need
• For kayaking: Warm clothes!!!! (avoid cotton at all costs! It makes you very, very cold when you’re wet). Anything made out of 'poly-' materials is a good bet! Fleeces are great! Fleecy pyjamas are even better! Tights make a good layer, especially to pop over your fleecy layers before trying to put on a wetsuit (even the lads should consider investing!!) If you have a wetsuit bring it! If not, the club has a small selection of them...try to get to the boathouse on time to get first pick!
You can never, ever have enough layers!!! Remember to bring enough gear for TWO days' paddling.
So here’s your essential guide to keeping nice and toasty on the river ;
http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,10222.0.html • A pair of old shoes! (Or wet booties if you have them). The water is going to be low (on the beach), and those stones really aren't the most fun!! If you don't have a pair, pop into your local Penneys or Tesco and pick up a pair of cheap shoes!
• Towel(s) and warm, dry clothes for both days!
NB if you have not been at a pool session you must attend one before going to Lahinch (
not Bundoran) to do a capsize drill and swim test.
If you have any questions at all feel free to email ucdcanoeclub@gmail.com!!!
