a further question: what the hell does imirt-holla mean?

it's like some weird Gaeilge / Gangsta crossover... hmm... gaelsta...

Nothing.

The irish for hole is 'poll' and not 'holla'

I would say that a closer translation of play-hole would be poll-súgradh

well that depends... súgradh refers to the aimless kind of playing with no rules or objective that a toddler might do. imirt is for games with a purpose and a way of playing, and I suppose if you were making sweet sweet music with the hole you could even call it a poll-seinm (or seint?)...

so the question becomes, is there any point to playboating or not? :P

Ritchie, that hole is at the back of my house. as kieran said it does take a lot of water to work, the sluice has to b pretty much washed out.

to get there- take the 1st Leixlip exit after lucan. when you get into the village, take a left at the lights. go up the hill and take the first right (its right before the church n school). and its at the  bridge at the botom of that hill
