Anyone who know's Robson Paddles??
« on: December 16, 2009, 15:29:29 »
Hey, so ye I've finally decided to stop my faffing (still can't get around to study) and get paddles!
I've tried a few different paddles and i just really like Robson's, and since I might be in Galway this weekend I was thinking to get some this weekend!

So any pro's/cons?

The girl I was talking to in River Deep Mountain High seemed to be steering me towards the COMBATS??

Cue BS answers:

'My paddles are awesome and I heard that 'insert brand here' break really easy (actually true of TyWarps) but you know if you like them they could be for you...'

Who am I to resist the bullshit:

Robson are pretty good, I had a pair of greens for a short period, then Dave B had them and now Rog has them (the same blades). They seem to last, comfy to use, I don't know jack shit about the combats though.

Enjoy

Edit: Mickle's got paddles for sale

Myself and Daniel both have robson Greens, we were talking about them there a while ago and we both agreed we really liked them, although the greens are the only set i've ever really used so I can't really compare them to anything. Mickle is sellin a pair of double dutch paddles, check the for sale section.

Edit: Ah kylie got there b4 me... Erm yeah what kylie said

I think I am the only person who has broken the baldes of a pair robsons. I've never heard of anyone else doing it. I liked mine they where nice and lasted well even with a crack in the spigot until a trip down the middle guil in france. That was over a year since they where first broken.

Yeah those ones are class, they double up as c1 paddles, so it's win-win!!!

But I think Roger's right - why get Robsons when you could get Prijons?? Or even better.... Schlegels!!!!

Ive had my greens for last year. i used Kinetics Before that and i found them quite similar for half the price.

Now for where to buy them, I got mine of a guy in england who delivers couple of times a week to the docks

Hes selling the Combats for 99 sterling which prob round 110 which is probably alot cheaper than the shop in galway i suspect

heres a link

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Anglesey-Kayaks-and-Climbing-Gear__W0QQ_armrsZ1QQ_fsubZ392439013

I talked to him directly and met him at the docks saving me using pay pal

No sorry i dont know much,

what do you paddle with usually.

Check the weight, Length, Blade shape and the feather. Compare it to what you use to and go with that.

Thats what i would do. a paddle is a paddle, once you go in to the named brands their all gonna be decent, as long as you take care of it, it will serve you well

The only reason why im saying getting something similar is so your paddling style doesnt change to much.

Like rotation, strength and stuff like that ive tried to roll with other paddles and found it big change because of the feather and the shape of blade.

Yeh if you ring that guy and ask him is he delivering at any stage soon and then ask could you meet and get some paddles of you. and if he says a like a big deliver charge just say your gonna go local and he prob drop it.

Or else you can go local and support the irish economy :)

hmmm ye i wouldn't really mind! i hadn't set out specifically for combats the girl in the shop kept mentioning them though!hmmm...

ha i may just end up getting them in Galway just for the handiness of it! but thanks anyway...

the combats blade is reinforced with something or its the usual stuff just talked up..?

and blades i generally use are (recently) borrowed from other people - trying different types. and before that - the bad ass prijons!!  :D
