Wandering over to a few rivers
« on: December 04, 2012, 19:47:31 »
I was thinking...it's a bit odd how when we run private trips, we tend to stick to the same rivers.
Indeed, I've run as many different rivers in Kerry as I have in Wicklow, and it's not for lack of selection, there's load of them!

It's not always possible to have someone that's run the river as part of your group on the day, and I think that this is something that can put a lot of us off considering new and exciting experiences that are available.

With a mind to branching out a bit more; is there who's interested in taking a walk up a few rivers when we're not lucky enough to have rain to have a look at them.

This would let people get a better idea of what's there, check for hazards and save on scouting time when there is rain. Some light pruning could also be done.

Places like the Shankill, Kings river, Inchavore and Ballydonnel brook are places that I'd like to run right now but I'd also like to look at the Source, the Glendassan and Poulaphouca waterfall.

Also, is there anyone who'd be interested in taking a trip up to the Mournes some time it's raining?

It's an adventure sport, let's be adventurous.

Aughrim is good fun, Avonbeag has some challenges but would a step up from the avonmore but easier than the annamoe. Kings river is fun but needs a lot of water. Baladonnel brook has a lot of debris in it due to the forestry, should have been removed by the contractor so I don't know if it's clear yet.

Nice one,

I think that next time that there's no paddling to be had we should head off.

Dunno,

exams aren't the most conducive to it, but then again people might want a distraction for an afternoon.

After exams but before Christmas or in the break after new-years would seem to be the obvious options.

what do you guys reckon?
