Buoyancy Aid Recommendations
« on: May 01, 2016, 19:31:46 »
I'm in the market for a new BA and have a €50 Great Outdoors gift card, any recommendations on a rescue BA? I haven't bought one since I was 15 or 16...

I REALLY like my one, loads of pockets but low profile.  Only thing is it's a bit of a trek to get on, and the quick release is on the 'wrong' side...

Can't you take it off and put it back the opposite way?

I recommend one that floats. Generally something to look for in a BA, or so I am told anyways

I bought a small /extra small BA in a GODs that was tested to 67N. I bought it to replace my small/medium Astral. Ths sizes written on BAs are nonsense.  Just try them on and you might get a cheap one in a sale.

Technically you can but you've to then rethread it completely each time as it would go over the zip...

Well GODs only seem to do Palm. So I'd recommend the Palm, or the Palm.

But actually, everyone I know with the FXr is actually really happy with it as a rescue BA as well as a freestyle one: http://www.greatoutdoors.ie/product_info.php?cPath=236_33_92&products_id=234616

Yeah the FXr seems to be really good! Zog loves his! Pretty sure Adrian is still mad about them too and he's not even sponsored by them anymore ;)

+1 on the FXr. I absolutely love mine too, sits nice and low and never gave me the feeling that it's in the way, even when packed with jellies and stuff...

You managed to turn that joke around and use it against me. Bravo!

I love my palm fxR, its essentially freestyle B.A. (palm fx) with a rescue harness, it's really low profile and has lots of space. It does only have one pocket which is a bit annoying sometimes as it hard to separate your rescue gear from your chocolate bars..but it is a cavernous pocket with lots of space. I have mine two years or so and its still showing no signs of wear.
