Kerry Lifts!
« on: December 01, 2016, 12:25:32 »
Ahhhh another Kerry Tread!!! WOOP  ;D ;D ;D
Okay so the low-down for getting down to the deep South-Whest to the lovely land of Glenbeigh (for all you Fresh-faced Freshers or Forgetful Continuing members) is this: The club Doesn't provide transport. That means the responsibility is on YOU to get yourself and your Boat down to Kerry for the Merriest of Times!   ^-^

But don't worry, your lovely committee won't leave you high and dry, this tread will be your one-stop-shop for organising your way down  ;D

So Drivers post here with the following details:

When you plan on going down and till what date (Still unconfirmed if 5/7 days .. will be confirmed shortly)
Where you will be driving from and where you can stop off
Spaces that you have
Boats if you have spaces for boats, please state how many :)
Contact Details (Pigeon is not an accepted method anymore, people :P)

Friendly reminder: Petrol Money is a must (or you might be labelled a Grinch and no-one wants that!)

So this year, there MAY be a Van going down, which can carry boats (will confirm this shortly), until then PLEASE have a BACK-UP plan for your boat!!! Don't wanna be boat-less in the BEST KAYAKING PLACE IN IRELAND! (that would suck) :D

I'll be driving down on the first day and coming back on the last day. Space for a total of 4/5 people including me (I've a big car 😊). It's most likely that the Canadian will on my roof so no boat spaces. From enfield, Meath to Dublin to glenbeigh

0871300140 or Facebook or in person, whatever works

You're not planning on putting a boat inside the Canadian, are you?

If I can get my boat in the van, then I'll be driving from Thurles with maximum boat space, but if the van is a no go, I'll probably have to drive up to Dublin the night before and go from there, and then drive back up at the end.

Basically, if no van is going, I'll have two more boat spaces, and two more people spaces, don't really have room for 4. If van is going, I presume I'll be driving myself, unless others want to get the train to Thurles.

Will be going for the entire duration.

Kieran
Leaving: Dublin, glasnevin
When: 27th, early enough, I like to get most of the drive done in day light
Return: 2nd or 3rd, pretty much staying for the whole thing
Boat space: 2 boat spaces
People space: 2 but will take three if needs be
Contact: Here or in person, I'm sure other people have my number but would prefer not to get weird calls in the middle of the night looking to buy a camel.

If you can't get a lift there is a train to Kilarney and a regular enough bus service to Kilorglan, we can pick you up from either

Just make sure to organise before hand with someone, preferable a day or two before hand. (Don't do what I did and show up in Killarney without anyone knowing on my first kerry all those years ago :P )

Looks like the 28th to the 1st for me! 3 car spaces. Going from Galway and no clue where I'm going really so I'll just put up a map. Can pick up in limerick or anywhere not too far out of the way

Edit: Contact FB, 2 seats left now... Can take boats if roof straps provided

I'm driving the UCD van down to Kerry. Its a new van, 161 - D - Citroen Relay.  The plan is:

Friday the 23rd of December pack the van with boats and paddle drive it to Limerick
Tuesday the 27th of December drive to the Sleepy Camel.
The van will be parked at night at the hostel for loading and unloading boats.
Tuesday the 3rd of January drive to Limerick.
Saturday the 7th of January return to Dublin and unpack the van.

We estimate the van can take 12 creekers and 5 playboats. Its not big enough to take the canadian canoe and has no roof bars. It has a tow hitch but I'm not taking a trailer.  The committee is still figuring out what club boats are going and then what private boats. Details on boat packing to follow later.

The van has two proper comfy seats, nothing like the crappy red van. So who wants a lift? Prefernce to people with good music.
