If you want to do either your level 3 or level 4 proficiency in the next couple of months, please post here with what level you wish to attain and if you think you are ready for an assessment.

In particular for this years freshers and anyone else who'd like to join in there will be a few training days for the level 3 in the coming months.

ALso please post if you are interested in doing accelearted rec 3 or rec 4.

If you know somebody who is interested but doesnt really read the board much then please let them know aswell.

Note: For the level 3s - If you believe you are ready then be prepared to be assessed within the next 2 / 3 weeks.

Dont forget to mention whether or not you think you're ready. Otherwise I'll assume you want training.

What is REC 3? Whats involved in it and what advantage is there in doing it? Please explain.

I'd like to re-new my REC 3

Ciarain, it stands for Rescue Emergency Care, it's a first aid course that teachs you all the basics.

It may also cover your occupational first aid as well, accelerated rec3 and level4 for me please, would like maybe 3-4 weeks to do level four.

Rec 3 acc and l4 please Mark (085-7637958), Jen the REC courses are first aid general stuff - similar to what you'd do with the St Johns Ambulance Corps or something like that, It's not based on a river. However if Keoghser or someone is running it for a kayaking club they will probably focus it on the likely watersports injuries. It's basic and what you need. If you're looking for something more there is a company called CDS (Clean Dry Socks - I'm actually not pulling the piss here) who provide Wilderness First Aid courses, it's focussed more on you being many hours away from medical assistance and therefore being the primary caregiver. not necessary here in Ireland if you have a mobile phone.
