Buying a helmet
« on: July 16, 2007, 10:01:51 »
Howdy folks,
So I'm going to buy a helmet. Is there anything I should look out for? Any good places online to buy from?

Any tips/advice would be great :)

Thanks

How much are you willing to spend? There is the wrsi helemt which is one size fits all and its cheap. A version of what the club uses is also a good idea for a one hit wonder. If you are looking for style rather than safety then look into sweet srutter helmet. The sweet rocker which I have gives better coverage but buy online much cheaper 130 compared to 250 in ireland.

I'd be willing to spend in and around €200. Do you have
any sites off hand Kieran? + remember I have a fat head
and alorra Krazy hair to fit in there. I might try on some
other peoples helmets before I buy online just to make
sure I have the right size.

What sorta helmet you got Jody? Not too sure I want cooties ;)

If you can afford a helmet with better coverage go for it, i thought the pro tec was pretty good but apparently it still leaves part of your head exposed :'( Once i get the cash together i'll be looking for something better. You dont wanna learn the hard way that you should have spent the extra cash when you had the chance!

The sweet rockers may look stupid but what can ya do?

Put a price on your brain and spend that much on a helmet. Think about it.

WRSi are great. White water Reasearch and Safety Institute. It is a safety institute that is associated with John Hopkins Research Centre.

Google WRSI for the address. The helmets are 70 USD and are one size fits all. They come with a shit load of padding to sort yuo out.

WRSi was set up by the parents of lucas turner who died in a kayaking accident cos he was wearing a shit helmet - where a decent helemt could have saved his life.

They helmets are affordable and very safe. They come in a wide variety of colours and are multi impact.

There customer service teama re super. If you look at the website, the photo on the front page is Kalagala Falls, the first rapid on the day two section of the nile.
