for those who were interested.
priced up the trip for west virginia in september.
provisional dates weds 12th sept to weds 26th september
flights. either aer fungus direct to washington or BA via london, both work out at around 470euro return including all taxes etc. no charge for boat.
car rental. with the exchange rate the way it is at the moment. a large f**k off jeep/suv works out at around 350-450 euros for the fortnight (i was looking at one
jeep that seats 8 for 450 dollars)
any of the jeeps will have roof rails like on an estate car, so bring that rack from home...
the euro goes a long way agains the dollar. and west virginia is very very cheap anyway. you are out in the boonies. look at eating/drinking/camping costs of around 500-600 us$ and thats living the high life. west virginia is a baptist state so no night clubs, no dancing.
so figure figure an all in for about 1000 yo-yos before you go gear shopping. and thats pretty generous...
the trip. basically a gauleyfest package. gauley fest is one of the largest whitewater festivals in the world run over a four day weekend on weekend of the 22nd sept. it's pretty crazy. it's a great place to pick up cheap gear...
paddling: on the dates above you have access to the gauley for 8 days over the two weekends on dam release. access to the yuoghiogeny river for two days on dam release. then, dependent on rainfall (middle of hurricane season) access to all sorts of other crazy shit.
here's some links that are worth looking at.
