Blessington 500 Challange
« on: September 17, 2008, 21:08:34 »
Hi All,
Just to let you know that Spinal Injuries & Sandycove Kayak club are running the Blessington 500 mile challange again this year on Oct 4th 2008. Last year we had over 100 paddlers turn up and raised over €5000 for Spinal Injuries.

The basic concept is to get as many kayakers, both able bodied and persons with spinal cord injuries, on the water that day, to paddle part or all of a 10 mile lap of Blessington lake. The aim is to complete a cumulative mileage of 500 miles or more!

It will be a fun day and we welcome all kayakers – in sea kayaks, polo boats, K-boats, playboats, creek boats and Canadians etc etc. (no sit on tops please!)

We will have a number of distances set out on the lake; these intervals will be 4 miles, 6 miles and 10 miles. Paddlers can choose which distances to paddle and hopefully people will complete at least 10 miles each. Every mile helps so even if you only have one hour to spare it would be appreciated.

The aim of this day is publicise kayaking for all and raise some much needed funds to continue Spinal Injuries Ireland quest to introduce outdoor sports to people with spinal cord injuries.

It would be very helpful for the organisers if people can let us know that they will be there on or before the 26th September. So we have an idea of how many kayakers will be there on the day.

We would also appricate it if you can pass this massage around the rest of your clubs and other paddling friends.

Hi All,
Unfortunally we are going to have to cancel the 'Blessington 500 Challange' on Saturday due to extreme weather conditions which are forcast for the weekend. We apologise for the late notice and we hope to let you all know when this event will be re-scheduled.
Spinal Injuries Ireland and Sandycove Kayak club wish to thank you for your support to date and hope to see you all in the near future.

Regards

Conor
