Free level 3 assessment and RSR 1 training this weekend
« on: November 05, 2008, 17:14:07 »
The ICU are running a workshop for instructors this weekend and they are looking for people to take part in a free level 3 skills assessment from Lucan down on Saturday and a free RSR (river safety & rescue) 1 training course on Sunday.

Both days will run from 1 o'clock until 4 and the group will be meeting at the ICU training centre on the Strawberry Beds.

Post up here if you are interested in one or both of the days or let me know at 087 9779231.

I'd do the Sunday if I'm eligible. What sort of level is this for?

RSR 1 is basic river safety. Anyone who is at or around a level 3 standard or below would benefit from this. Level 4 types would probably be beyond it.

I might be interested.

Is it that they supply boats or is it all based outside of boats. What gear is needed?

I was told that they wont be using boats at all for the RSR. Bring your normal paddling gear and any rescue gear you have

Any chance I can borrow from some lovely person;

- Length of Webbing / Open Sling 4-5 metres long
- Closed Sling
- Screw Gate Karabiner x 2

Also, what's an "integrarted harness" on a bouyancy aid?

It's the quick release harness on whitewater designed bouyancy aids, you probably would have seen people with cow tails attached to their BAs, these are attached to their 'integrated harness'. Just borrow a BA with one if you own doesn't have it already...

Simon Barry's personal kayak-carrying burro in Mexico...

I love that photo. The burro looks so cheesed off...
