IntoIndia is an Irish company specialising in River Running and Trekking in the Indian Himalayas. Join us this season for some white-water adventures on India's best multi-day rivers.

The Zanskar River, Grand Canyon of Asia

Duration: 14 days
Dates: July 25th to August 7th
Whitewater: Class III/IV
Trip Prices: €1549 per person
Group size: 16
Spaces left on the Expedition: 8

This is a river expedition with quality white-water and amazing scenery immersed in the unique Buddhist culture of Ladakh in Northern India. We start with a scenic drive past 7000 meter peaks and huge glaciers to get to the put-in of this remote river. The first two river days give an easy introduction on gentle white-water and time to acclimatise while surrounded by epic scenery and the occasional monastery overlooking the river. As we reach the end of a wide valley with the huge Zanskar mountain range looming, a tight canyon appears and we enter the Zanskar Gorge, with canyon walls over 1000 meters deep in places. Once in the gorge we are committed to reach the end and with big class III/IV rapids, and consistently moving water. This trip takes us right through the lunar landscape of western Ladakh, one the most surreal places on the planet and visits to monasteries, palaces, markets and villages are all part of the itinerary. This river is suitable for level 4 kayakers with solid rolls. A reasonable level of fitness is required as this is a high altitude trip. No white-water experience is required to join this trip as a rafter.

The Kali River, Intersecting India and Nepal

Duration: 9 days
Dates: October 10th to 18th
Whitewater: Class II/III (IV)
Trip Price: €899 per person
Group size: 16
Spaces left on the Expedition: 10

This picturesque river is a great introduction to white-water in India. It is a classic pool drop river, with relaxing calm scenic sections followed by big fun rapids with long wave trains. The lack of road access to this Himalayan gem makes it a real wilderness trip.

The river flows past terraced farms, mountain streams, white sandy beaches and thick tropical jungles. Forming the border between India and Nepal you get to visit both countries often having lunch in Nepal and dinner in India. The river is teeming with fish and the region is rich in wildlife, home to bear, leopard, elephant, monkey and over 500 species of bird. This river is suitable for level 3 kayakers. No white-water experience is required to raft or ducky (inflatable kayaks for first timers) this river.

TreknRaft, The Roopkund Trek and Kali River.

Duration: 16 days
Dates: October 2nd to 17th.
Whitewater: Class II/III (IV)
Trek: Moderate
Trip Price: €1449 per person
Group size: 16
Spaces left on the Expedition: 10

This adventure holiday combines the best of trekking and river running in the Indian Himalayas, adding the Roopkund trek to the Kali River
The five day trek included in this adventure holiday takes us to the intriguing Roopkund Lake (5029m). In 1942 local forest staff made a amazing discovery when they found over 300 skeletons at Roopkund Lake (5029m). Until 2004 scientists, historians and archaeologists continued to be puzzled by these remains. There were many theories about these people, who were they, where were they going and what were they doing at this high altitude. Were they traders, pilgrims or warriors? What killed them? Modern DNA testing answered some questions and giant hailstones, the size of cricket balls were identified as the cause of death. This trail goes through woodland, flora filled pastures and hamlets with great views of Nanda Ghungti (6310 m), Changabang (6864 m) & Trishul (7120 m) peaks.

We use raft support to carry all equipment on both of these expeditions. This allows us to enjoy the excitement and fun of multi-day kayaking with none of the heartache. Having raft support brings luxuries such as cooks, great food, and empty kayaks, normally unknown to expedition paddlers. Paddling for multiple days with an empty kayak can make all the difference between a good trip and life changing adventure. You are welcome to bring your own kayak or contact us for our current list of kayaks available to rent.

See you on the water
