Hi Guys,
we are approaching the limit of our storage in the gallery. Because of this i'm asking that you not upload any more photo's.....(sorry Eoghan, you'll have to wait)
I'm going to start deleteing old photo albums, basically images older than this and the previous year.
Some questions:
  • Has anyone uploaded photos that they no longer have their own copies of?
  • Is there any old albums that people think we should leave in the gallery?
  • Is there any newish albums which people think we should get rid of?

I'll put up a list of albums before i remove them. I will be keeping backups.
cheers
Dan

condensing the alps photos could be an idea.

Hey Dan,

I've loadsa photos up. I'll go through my ones and delete a number of them to clear a bit of space.

Is there any way of setting a max file size on the photos that go up? Some photos that are in the gallery are huge. Setting a limit on filesize could help with storage problems.

Dan you can get rid of the photos of Ferg and Woody. I think we all have spotted the difference by now even if Nadia hasn't.

I guess you can also get rid of the photos from Lucan and Dun Laoghaire too.

lets not delete them forever!! can they be put on another website such as geocities or failing that lets store them on some cd-roms so the club has future access for banter!!

Hey Guys,
The issue is the amount of space the gallery takes up,
It's currently taking up 279MB in 1173 photos.
I don't think geocities or similar are feasible really, I don't think they give you tht much space, Brendino?

Do we really need to have over 1100 photos online at the same time?
I've made a copy of the gallery which i can burn to cd if anyone wants?

cheers
Dan

And we are done!
this new version has a image size limit. I'm not sure what to set it at?
What size is the average image? John you said there were images which were bit to big? Which ones did you mean and how big were they?
From my point of view i don't think setting this will have that big an effect...
There are over a thousand images up, spring cleaning is definitely in order. Anyway the image limit only applies to new images....
Here are some i am thinking of removing.

  • André's Easky 2000 Pics
  • André's Boiiing and John's 21st Pics
  • André's Intervarsities 2000 Pics
  • Kilkenny 2002*2
  • André's Una 21st Pics
  • André's Kerry 2000-2001 Pics

The alps photos in particular need to be trimed down. There are a few gallerys which have over 50 reasonably high quality photos. These albums are in the order of 7-10MB each.
I'm going to cut mine down when i get a chance.
One other thing you may see a page about updating an album when you open it, this will only happen if you are the first person to view it after the upgrade, just wait for it to finish and it'll be fine.
cheers
Dan

I have an unusual suggestion for the photo section, why not include some photos of canoeing? From the current galleries all the club seems to do is get dressed up in fancy dress, get pissed, drive to and from rivers, have babies and get haircuts.

taking pictures of people canoeing is boooring, the best you can hope for is someone getting a beating and even then it's a bit of an anticlimax

I think some paddling also good - like Andre's aforementioned Boiiing trip was linked to from a message of Brendino's to show people what surfing Slane wave was like.
Seems they now have enough first-hand experience of the Boyne to last a life time though!
