So we are approaching our final few weeks of kayaking for the year (sob, sob) This week will hold the annual New Committee Trip where basically you get your opportunity to take out your hungover frustrations out on the New Committee ;D
When: Saturday 9th April
Where: Wicklow
The Plan: Meet at the Boathouse at 10am to grab our gear, pack the trailer and load on to the bus
What to bring:
• €10! This covers the cost of the bus and instructors
• Warm clothes!!!! ….you know the drill at this stage!!
(avoid cotton at all costs! It makes you very, very cold when you’re wet). Anything made out of 'poly-' materials is a good bet! Fleeces are great! Fleecy pyjamas are even better! Tights make a good layer, especially to pop over your fleecy layers before trying to put on a wetsuit (even the lads should consider investing!!) If you have a wetsuit bring it! If not, the club has a small selection of them...try to get to the boathouse on time to get first pick!
You can never, ever have enough layers!!!
So here’s your essential guide to keeping nice and toasty on the river ; http://forum.ucdcanoeclub.com/index.php/topic,10222.0.html
• A pair of old shoes! (Or wet booties if you have them). For this trip socks won’t work...the water is going to be low, so if you come out of the boat, you'll be stepping on rocks (which is not fun in socks!) If you don't have a pair, pop into your local Penneys or Tesco and pick up a pair of cheap shoes!
• Towel and warm, dry clothes for afterwards!
• Some hot stuff! Flasks of tea, soup, hot blackcurrant...they'll all be much appreciated on the bus home!! And chocolate bars or cereal bars!! Nothing better than some sugar after a fun day on the water (avoid things that aren't in wrappers though, cause you won’t want to wait to wash your hands before eating them!).
Sign-up strictly closes at 12:00PM Thursday afternoon. Any late sign-ups will be placed on a waiting list.
The more hungover the better!!!
Please be reminded that if you sign-up and do not turn up for the trip without good notice, a charge of €5 will be applied.

If coming will you be driving from Trim Andrew? just to get an idea of bus numbers :)
-
Levels update: 0.9 m at Guinness bridge, that's enough to run Trooperstown down, there are showers etc due all week I'd say it'll be a runner on Saturday.
-
Woop! Also, by "woop" I mean hells yeah :P
-
Cool! We'll still run club section of the river (Buckys to Clara Vale) but any level 3 who wants to can abandon ship at Trooperstown and meet the group at the bridge :)
-
ssssoooooooo........ya, ill sign up.
-
Do the club not run the annamoe-troopers town section anymore?
-
Never on club trips, not 100% why to be honest. Could be an idea for this weekend though depending on the levels and who has signed up?
-
You technically have to have level 4 instructors to be allowed put people and gear on that section on a club trip and we no longer have L4 instructors who'll do that for us for €50, or not often when the water is there.
not 100% why to be honest.
Mr. ex-Safety :P
-
Is that stretch (apart from Guinesses) not classed as grade II? Though I think you're right, we probably only did that stretch when we had a L4 instructor.
-

Naw, that's a shame - it was always good entertainment.
Anyway, sign me up!
(No bus for me, I can take some extra folks if the bus is full.

Sure, Jackson's is grade II - where's the problem?

If Niall B is still good for taking passengers you can come! If not we'll have to see what Andrew L's predicament is :)

I didn't know Express Bus did 21 seater busses, thought they were all 25. But I'll get on to Niall
-
14 or 21 as far as I know (or atleast I was always quoted a 21 seater when I booked the big one...)
Edit: the invoice for this one says 25 but I could have sworn they've always been 21... So maybe just incase check with Niall but you're more than welcome on the bus if there's a seat...
-
They were always 14 or 25 for us as far as I remember!
6 rows of 4 and then the 1 in the middle at the back?
-
Yeah makes sense! I don't know why I have 21 in my head!

You could be right, I'm just pretty sure it was always 25 :D
-
23 as far as I remember. You could always call and ask them when you are booking?
-
It's booked 😜 the invoice says 25 but I used to always ask for a 21 seater and I've never had a reason to actually pay attention to how many seats are on the bus once I've gotten on 🙈
-
I'm quite certain it's 25 seats. But when the company confirms for me we can adjust if necessary.
-
Yvette has confirmed there's 25 seats 🙈 I think I need to learn to count a bit better!
-
..... but diarmuid you can't sit with us :P
