Rescue for the Liffey Descent 2012

Maryanne · September 10, 2012, 22:26:20

The Liffey Descent will be on Saturday the 29th of September this year and each weir or drop on the course has rescue paddlers and in some cases divers present to keep an eye on the racers.

UCD has sent people to do rescue at Sluice for several years now, who'd like to do it this year? That week's club trip has been moved to Sunday so that anyone who wants can attend.

You get a free Liffey Descent t-shirt, a free dinner and a free ticket to the after party and it's a great experience. It can be a big boost for your rescue skills and cheering on the racers as they go by is a bit of craic too.

Post up if you'd like to be there!

Rescue will involve a mixture of bank and river based rescue, so it should be possible to accommodate a variety of rescue experience.

Count me in.

Ross · September 11, 2012, 02:32:00

Me too please

CormacR · September 11, 2012, 09:42:20

Only if I can be completely over dramatic and dive on top of people from the sluice wall when I think they look like they might capsize.

Diarmuid · September 11, 2012, 11:52:20

I'll do it

The bank below the chicken chute.

Near the carpark.

Garbhan · September 11, 2012, 15:17:38

I'd be up for helping out

Kater · September 11, 2012, 16:35:32

Would they also need volunteers on dry land to help with registration or timing or something that doesn't require rescue skills?

Asho87 · September 11, 2012, 19:23:41

Kate, if you wanna do that try call/text Benny, he'd be grateful for the help I'm sure! O87 1213152

I'll be home for that weekend, but I think I might be a spectator this year. This means I can throw stuff at the rescuers from the bank, wahey!

Matt · September 11, 2012, 21:27:19

Feck it, put me down for rescue sure!

Yep! There's loads of stuff to do! I think Helena helped directing traffic in the carparks last year, there are probably other jobs too. If you want to ring Benny like Asho said I"m sure he'll have a job for you. You could see if anyone else signs up for extra help and maybe get a job together?
