Congratulations to everyone who contributed to an excellent result in varsities this year!

For all those who couldn't make it or missed out on the news here is the overview of the weekend with more details and placings to follow.

Polo - 6th
UCD v UCC: UCD win 8-1
UCD v Shackleton: UCD win 8-2
UCD v Maynooth: Maynooth win 2-1

Maynooth University Canoe and Kayak Club (MUCK) won the polo tournament overall so while a loss to them in the group stage meant that the UCD team didn't get to progress to a semi-final, holding a team of such a high calibre to such a narrow victory in one of the most engaging and thrilling games of the tournament is an achievement to be extremely proud of.

Whitewater - 4th
The UCD team travelled to the whitewater slalom course on Friday morning to identify the best lines down the course. This year's whitewater event was an individual time trial in which each the times of the competitors from each college were added to calculate the team score.
The water level was far higher than expected, which led to last minute changes of the positioning of the slalom gates but the UCD team's experience, skill and dissection of the course led to precision rounding of 14/16 gates overall. UCD's team provided rescue for other competitors for the majority of the competition

Long Distance - 3rd
Following several weeks of training at club trips and individually, UCD deployed the largest number of competitors in the long distance race. Each competitor's finish was recorded and the best six results were selected to make up the college's overall score. UCD also got the maximum participation bonus of 10 points.

Top six results
2nd - Liam Banks, Men's K1
2nd - Seán McCarthy, Men's HP
2nd - Marie Harrington, Women's GP
3rd - Cormac Roche & Niall Finch, General Purpose Duo
4th - Bill Corbett, Men's GP
4th - Louis O'Carroll & Simon Rowan, General Purpose Duo
...more placings to follow

Freestyle - 5th
Due to higher water levels than expected the freestyle competition was run on "Little Gower" rather then the Curragower falls. This new competition format combined flatwater freestyle moves with downstream freestyle and competitors were scored on their best two runs from which team scores were calculated.
UCD's team of four consisted of one entry in the men's expert heat and three entries into the women's heat.

4th - Bill Corbett, Men's GP
I love this result just because Bill started at least half a minute after the horn had sounded.  ;)

Well done everyone, obviously our freestyle tactics worked!

I'll have some photos of the long distance up on facebook tonight. I was too busy telling people to go right that I didn't get all of you, also wasn't wearing my contacts or glasses so couldn't see any of you until you were nearly on top of me. Also have one or two good shots from the freestyle will also stick those up and will look at the video I took of Peter to make sure it's good enough, I hop I got his bowstall kisses to judges move.

I had a ball, unfortunately so did my bank account  :o It's going to be beans surprise for the next few days...so worth it.

Is there anywhere where they put up all the placings for the long distance? Curious as to where I came :)

Good question!
I've asked them to email us on all the results they have, since it's nice to know how you did!
No reply yet, but once I get the listings I'll put them straight up here :)
