Varsity Trials/Practice 2017
« on: December 14, 2016, 14:52:20 »
So Varsities is only around the corner and with that comes trials/practice to pick out this year's competitors. Varsities will be taking place in Belfast from the 3rd - 5th February. In preparation we have a fun weekend of all things varsity related.

Whitewater and Freestyle

WW and freestyle trials will be taking place on the Liffey on Saturday 21st January.

We will have safety on the course so we encourage anyone with their level 3 skills to come and do the trials, even if you dont see yourself going for the team.

Freestyle trials will be held on the Liffey. We will run a mini competition and points scored will be taken. The final decision on the team won't be based on the points scored alone. Team selection will be based on the points scored, competence on the feature and on overall freestyle experience.

The plan is to meet at the boathouse for 10am. Those who need to be fitted for playboats are to be there at 9:30am. Hopefully be on the water for  11am.

So who is able to drive on Saturday?

Weekend 28th

Slalom

Slalom practice and training will take place at sluice at the slalom gates. The slalom course in belfast is not all flat water so Sluice is a nice level to gauge. Slalom criteria will be decided closer to the time.

Long Distance

Long distance practice will take place on the Canal at Portobello. Long distance will be primarily some training in wobbly boats etc. so trials wont necessarily be done for LD as everyone can take part.

Long Distance will be taking place this Saturday 28th. All those hoping to to participate in Varsities long distance are encouraged to come. Those that are participating the high performance category it is mandatory to come so as to try out the boats.

Meet at the boathouse at 10am.

Please sign-up below if you can attend

Polo

The polo team will be picked from the members that compete in the Munster Polo League.

Please pop your name down and state the discilpines you would like to compete in.

Um... All I suppose 😜 won't be at ld training though

Also I would like to banish from peoples minds that sluice is a freestyle spot... It's shite, but seen as varsities one is none the better 😜

Shame I can't make the upper bandon race now πŸ˜₯

Diarmuid you are disappointing me again and again. Come to kerrrrry.

I propose ww trial gets combined with Kev Cahill's upper carragh race plz (I don't like missing other rivers for two days).

I'd like to sign up for ww, please. Also for long distance, will train in limerick. Will do any discipline as long as it's under 6km. Unfortunately I don't think i can be around on the Friday for the freestyle so won't bother trying out with my woeful skillz.

However I reserve the right to tell you to politely eff yourself if you win due to higher water levels like last year Ailbhe  :P
